It will be hard for Adam to beat Vanderjerk's # in the regular season. Perhaps it will make a difference in the playoffs. But with Manning's protection issues it shouldn't make a difference at all.
Nobody really wanted Adam to leave, he's a good kicker, but as they say, "all good things must come to an end." Furthermore, at age 34, I think the Pats got the best ten years out of Adam. The Colts' advantage is he will be kicking from turf in the twilight years of his career.
Like in any strategic game (like chess for example) if you lose something, there is always something that you can do to partially offset the loss. For example, we could draft the OSU kicker, and he could do better on KO. That could give the defense potentially 5 more of yards of field position. The new kicker could be able to kick longer FG.

Ah, crap. So the Colts signed Adam AND helped their cap number?!?!?! Sucking sucking super sucking suckitude of the suckliest sucking suckrement.
yeah, this year. But they aren't going to get away from making him the highest paid kicker. BB will find good use for Adam's $ he had allocated. I am sure of it.

There's pluses and minuses..I agree no one wanted him to leave..but things happen..AV got his money, the Dolts got a bargain and the Patriots will move on.

Shhh... rumor is we're saving the cap room to sign Diet Mountain Dew Machine. It's got a hell of a lot more pep than last years Diet Pepsi Machine, younger, and after prodution fell off last year, is really looking to make the most of it's second chance.

I don't know what Diet Pepsi Machine you were watching, but the Pats' Diet Pepsi Machine was in his rookie year last year, and buried on the receiver depth chart behind Givens, Branch, Brown, and even Bethel Johnson. Now Givens is gone and even if Bethel would beat Machine in a sprint, Machine has better instincts, runs tighter routes, and has more heart.
But Diet Dew Machine has been in the league how long without producing?
Year Team Yardage
1997 Atl. 0
1998 Atl. 0
1999 Bal. 102*
2000 Bal. 48* *Led all receivers on team
2001 Minn. 70
2002 Minn. 124
2003 Minn. 0
2004 S.F. 144*
2005 S.F. 27
Okay, he led his teams in receiving with the '04 niners and the '99 and 2000 Ravens, but that says more about those teams than Diet Dew Machine. The only thing you can say about him is he doesn't have off-the-field problems. But his best years are behind him. Money would be better spent on keeping a figurative metaphor or two.
The real problem here is how will I react to AV at Gillette this season while he is wearing that loserform with the horseshoe.
I loved having him here, but now I see him as a sell out who snubbed the chance of finishing a legendary career where it was made legendary.
Business is business and money is money. But at the end of the day he's kicking FGs for perrenial losers like Dungy, Manning, Polian and all Colts fans in general.
Losing is contagious.
Maybe Adam just wants to play shorter seasons.
