Default Dane Fletcher Link

All,

Here's something on Undrafted Free agent Dane Fletcher, that intrigues me. He was the Big Sky Conference Defensive MVP, and all time Big Sky sack record holder.

Under the Radar: Dane Fletcher | Blog | BlitzNation

"With plenty of 3-4 defensive teams looking for players to rush the passer, there is no doubt that Montana State sack artist Dane Fletcher will be on their radars. At 6’1” 245lbs. Fletcher had a spectacular workout at his pro day running the 40 yard dash in 4.61 seconds, doing the short shuttle in 4.35 seconds, and had a 6.93 time in the three cone drill. His explosion was further illustrated with a 36-inch vertical leap to go along with a 9’3” broad jump. In such a compact frame, Fletcher also showcased above average strength hoisting 29 reps at 225lbs. on the bench press. This collection of numbers along with his non-stop motor and amazing level of production as the Big Sky Conference’s all-time leader in sacks makes Fletcher an ideal fit as a 3-4 outside linebacker. With his great work ethic throughout his collegiate career the transition should be a breeze for this elite athlete.

One thing that could derail his bid for an NFL dream is the injury bug which bit him quite often during his time at Montana State and those concerns will follow him to the next level. Although he put up huge numbers during his time in school, Fletcher rarely dominated games and scouts may question whether he has the elite ability necessary to be an NFL player. Obviously the idea of transitioning to the 3-4 scheme is easier on paper than it may be to execute as Fletcher has very little experience in coverage and will definitely have a steep learning curve coming into the league. His value as a high motor player and even on special teams as he blocked two kicks during last season could get him drafted in the latter part of the 6th round or maybe in round 7. NFL teams are always quick to flock to a hot commodity and his stock is currently on the rise after a stellar pro day performance.

A number of names will be called during April’s NFL Draft that seem to be from out of left field, but don’t let Dane Fletcher’s be one of them. Keep looking out for more Under the Radar players shooting up draft boards or quietly lurking in the depth of this class that could make a huge impact over the coming years on Sundays."

Would love to see any links you all have on him or other undrafted free agents.

I have known Dane since we were 11 years old, he has the best work ethic of any athlete I have ever met. He is gonna prove that it was a mistake for him to go undrafted. This was a great signing for the Pats.

He definitely lacks the physical ability to start for us, but I like him as a possible pass-rush specialist and special-teamer. The LB ST spots are pretty stacked, though, with Woods, Alexander, Murrell, Crable, etc fighting for just a few spots.
