I think people look back far too harshly on Bethel. He really played a role on the 2003/2004 teams, both special teams and as a burner. As a 5th wideout, he was basically as productive as our #3 was this year.
If a 2nd round pick contributes on ST and as a offensive skill player in two championship seasons - I'll take it. I have no regrets about Bethel.
Also, when it comes to drafting wideouts, people forget we also got Branch in round 2 and Givens in round 7. There's a type of wide receiver that is higher risk (albeit higher reward). Bethel & Jackson both fit that type.
I want us to draft guys like Mardy Gilyard or Golden Tate who could be just as likely to be the next Desean Jackson or Santonio Holmes or Deion Branch than the next Chad Jackson. We need to draft quick-twitch wideouts who can run routes and understand this offense.
