He's the best special teamer/gunner in the world, but he's not a returner, or a wide receiver. Period.
He had 28 receptions in his first 2 seasons with San Diego. Not huge numbers, but he averaged over 20 yards per catch those years. But you're right, he's great at one thing, and hasn't done much in other areas.

You really dont tell the whole story.

Osgoods first 2 seasons 03 and 04 with Drew Brees at QB he did quite well with 28 rec - 586 yards - 2 TDs. Something happened in 05 and he wound up getting hurt in December and landing on IR.

QB change to Rivers in 06 and for whatever reason Osgood dropped off the face of the earth at WR.

I like his attitude.

Agent Drew Rosenhaus writes in his Twitter account that Chargers special teamer Kassim Osgood is willing to play safety.

Osgood has been dying to shed his "special teamer only" label for years, and strong safety -- the Bolts' weakest link on defense -- isn't a bad idea. Still, at 6'5/220 he'd be one over-sized safety. Osgood remains open to a trade.

Kassim Osgood

We know:

1 Osgood would be low risk money wise.
2 Hes a hard worker and will play special teams.
3 He wants another chance to prove he can play WR in this league and it sounds like hes willing to put in the work to get there. Some folks thought NE was crazy to want Welker. I mean, he never had a 1000 yard season in Miami.
4 He would play for NE
5 He has good hands

you can't sweat special teams when YOU CAN'T EVEN FIELD A DEFENSE....and right now, the pats can't even put a group of LB's on the field........2 of the 4 guys they have under contract right now have never played because of injury

yeah......special teams is a need, but that's like worrying about the roof when you don't have a foundation
You act like the two things are mutually exclusive. Like somehow trying to improve one means we're NOT going to improve the other.

Using your analogy, it's like building the foundation, then going to move in realizing you forgot the roof. You can (and need) to have BOTH.

sure....no sweat, sign him up......I don't argue his value, but like I said, the pats have a ton of bigger needs

sure you do........of course you need to pay attention to the entire roster........

as for the roof analogy......you can always add one to a foundation......hell, you can throw a tarp on top for the time being.

but field position don't mean squat if your defense is garbage

Oh,Yeah.....

How many in here would react positively if Wilfork was seen wearing a Dolphins or Jets cap at the pro bowl?

The players do a gear trade. In fact you can watch a video of it on NFL.com. They trade team gear with each other, sign autographs, etc.

It means absolutely nothing and anyone who would be mad seeing Wilfork wearing a dolphins or jets cap after the gear trade would be ridiculous. Especially since the Miami player who gave it to him might very well be sporting his shiny new Pats cap that he got from Wilfork in exchange.

Sorry, I got that catch figure from another post in the thread.

Kassim Osgood

He has 33 receptions. He's probably worth bringing on board for ST alone but I'd at least give him a shot as a WR and see how he does. Vrabel was cut from Pittsburgh, just because someone doesn't fit in on another team in a role doesn't mean they can't be successful in it elsewhere.
