that's not necessarily good news. if the raiders hire anyone with an ounce of competence, it may unleash some of the talent that Russell has. With Cable we are guaranteed the top 10 pick.

"He’s the greatest quarterback to ever play the game. He goes from being a rookie that nobody is expecting anything from, to taking over with people saying he can’t do it, to winning three Super Bowls....It should already be obvious he’s the greatest quarterback to ever have played. "
That pick is looking as good as ever and KC looking better at the end, then adding Weis, could help too. The Raiders won't win many, if any, against SD and Denver, it would be nice if KC can at least split and leave them 1-5 in the division.
2011 is shaping up to be an excellent draft. Some prospects include (juniors with an *):
QB Jake Locker, Washington
QB Ryan Mallet, Arkansas
RB Ingram*, Alabama
WR Julio Jones*, Alabama
WR AJ Green*, Georgia
WR Michael Floyd*, Notre Dame
WR Jonathan Baldwin*, Pittsburgh
WR DeAndre Brown*, Southern Mississippi
TE Kyle Rudolph, Notre Dame
OT Matt Reynolds, BYU
OT Clint Boling, Georgia
DE/DT Cameron Heyward, Ohio St.
DE/DT Allen Bailey, Miami
DT Marvin Austin, North Carolina
DE (?OLB) Richard Quinn*, North Carolina
DE Da'Quan Bowers*, Clemson
DE Adrian Clayborn, Iowa
LB Bruce Carter, North Carolina
LB Travis Lewis, Oklahaoma
CB Patrick Peterson*, LSU
CB Janoris Jenkins*, Florida
And that's not including some guys who are still undecided about 2010, such as DE's Derrick Morgan, Carlos Dunlap and Greg Romeus and S Earl Thomas.

Until Russell decides he wants to put forth a legitimate NFL effort it doesn't matter how much "talent" he has. The odds of your scenario playing out are about the same as Brady and P. Manning both deciding they've had enough and both retiring this offseason.

I have seen nothing out of Russell that indicates he can pick up the pro game. What will help the pick for us is a new coach having to come in and start from scratch, more of Al Davis' "awesome" draft evaluations, and Richard Seymour going elsewhere.

What difference does it make if it is a top 5 or a top 10 pick. BB will just trade down to the middle of the first round, for picks in the next draft. Which he will in turn use to trade into the draft following the next, and so on and so forth....(Yes I do remmember Mayo went #10)

All reports that I have heard peg football as one of Russell's last priorities. I think this move helps the pats, Russell will never be a top QB and bringing in a new system for next year just slows down any learning curve that team has. Everyone expects teams to not do as well the first year of a new coach.
