Default Patriots investigating assistant Coaches

Patriots | Tice talks to Belichick about Knox Jr.
Mon, 23 Jan 2006 21:52:59 -0800

Bob McGinn, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reports former Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Tice said he had a long conversation about former Vikings assistant coach Chuck Knox Jr. with New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, who is looking for one or more coaches on defense.
-------------------------------------------
I hadn't seen this posted. Kinda figured Bill was doing something like this.
I see at least one maybe two defense assistants added.
Offense is probably OK.

Is that the son of the former Steelers coach?

You mean Chuck Noll? Chuck Knox coached mostly with the Rams, later the Bills.

I think this is good news. We need some additional top coaching help after losing Crennel and now Mangini. Belichick may need decide whether to let others go to become coordinators. Should he really stop Pepper?

I agree that we are a bit better off on offense. However, I would add an OL coach. Davidson was instrumental in developing guys like Neal. The present coach is in his second year of coaching, his first year as an OL coach. Dante is assistant coach, and can help, but a bit more experience would help.

I'm not a fan of our running game. I think we need someone used to developing run schemes. Fear is very experienced, but I really see little in the way of results. One top run-oriented OL coach would probably be enough.

Dante may be the AHC, but he is the main OL coach. Patricia is the Assistant OL coach like Davidson was, but he's not the TE coach which Davidson had additionally.
