Default Can we get some money back?

I was curious... is there any recourse that the Pats could consider when it comes to a high-paid long-term player who acts in an unprofessional manner?

For example, if I sign a player to a 5 year $50M contract, and that player immediately becomes a cancer, showing disrespect, and showing no desire to play football, can he be forced to lose some of that due to breach of contract? Are those "guaranteed" payments 100% guaranteed, or can a team argue that the player broke a contract?

Surely there are clauses that outline basic standards of conduct that must be adhered to throughout the duration of the contract?

Unless they actually breach their contract, guaranteed means guaranteed.

Update: Well that didn't work out as I had planned. Next year baby, next year 19-0 we go. Next year.

Of course.

The question was, what's considered a breach of contract?
Which leads to, what's in the average contract as far as conduct goes?

It would be extremely hard to breach a contract. He would have to not show up or some other extreme circumstance. Simply being a pain in the ***** isn't enough.

I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure that it's a breach of contract to beat up your coach. So we'll hit the jackpot if AD and Springs decide to beat up Belichick.

I don't know. After watching AD play this year and Springs being a non-factor, my money would be on Belichick.

Didn't the Patriots end up having to pay Terry Glenn?

Sure, fine AD $5M for making a comment about the coach and being late for practice. I am very, very glad that players have union representation.

The answer is that the clauses in the contract are quite clear. Thomas is so not close to a breach of contract.
