2003
-Coming off a playoff-less season because Brett Favre blew a game at the end of the year he should have won.
-Bill has a ton of draft picks and uses most of them on making an aging defense young.
-Bill jettisons Lawyer Milloy, a defensive leader of the team.
-Pats start the year with injuries all over the place, forcing them to play those younger players right away.
-Pats start the year slowly, 2-2 out of the gates. Brady looks average, throwing 3 picks in a game against Washington, led by Champ Bailey. People start wondering if the Pats made the right choice in keeping Brady over Bledsoe.
-An AFC West and South team grab all the headlines (KC and Indy).
-Pats win their next game against Tennessee. The never lose again.
2009
-Coming off a playoff-less season because Brett Favre blew a game at the end of the year he should have won.
-Bill has a ton of draft picks and uses most of them on making an aging defense young.
-Bill jettisons Richard Seymour, a defensive leader of the team.
-Pats start the year with injuries all over the place, forcing them to play those younger players right away (Light, Mayo, Sanders, Taylor, Welker)
-Pats start the year slowly, 3-2 out of the gates. Brady looks average, missing wide-open receivers against NY, then Denver, led by Champ Bailey. People start wondering if the Pats made the right choice in keeping Brady over Cassel.

That's really amazing. Great work drawing the parallels. I'd forgotten many of them.
Let's just hope the last 8 games of 2009 and the playoffs continue to mirror 2003.

Re: Colts fans confident, worried more about Steelers
If I'm a Colts fan, I always take the regular season with a grain of salt because more often than not, the Colts are a first round exit. I'll give the Colts credit thus far because they're beating the teams they play. However, in the last two weeks, the Colts have really struggled beating the 9ers and the Texans.
With that said,I think this game is getting more hype than it deserves. In fact, I think the Colts are going to get a taste of what the Pats had to go through in '05. Specifically, the Pat had two new starting CB's in Asante Samuel and the legendary Duane Starks. Their nickel and dime CB's were Hobbs and Hank Poteat. In addition, Rodney Harrison was out for season and Richard Seymour missed that game. In the end, it was painful to watch Manning get his first win at Gillette in a blowout.
Fast forward to 2009, another hyped-up game between the Pats and the Colts. Only this time, the Colts are the team that has to go up against a Pats offense with 3/4 of their secondary out for this game. Not to mention, the CB's replacing Hayden and Jackson are rookies! Good thing the Colts have Freeney and Mathis or else they'd be in big trouble. In the end, the Colts will feed of the crowd noise early and get some hits or sacks on Brady. However, once the Pats settle in, the Colts will find themselves playing catch up the entire game. The Colts don't scare as much as they do for most people on this board for several reasons. First, although Manning doesn't get pressured much, the Colts still struggle to score on even the most mediocre teams. Second, the Colts won't be able to stop the run and their missing 3/4 of their secondary. Last but not least, the Pats could've easily beat them last season without Tom Brady and a struggling defense. Moss and Welker will take these rookies to school as the Pats will win in a blow out.

LOL. These guys are already so confident that they will win on Sunday. Some of them even say that the Steelers will have more say about homefield advantage than the pats do.
well they are 8-0 ,playing at home and have every reason to be confident. pats have played well but this offense is a different beast to defend so i am so over cofindent about our chances. We gave up 98 + drives to the broncos. So its going to be a huge effort for our D which has played edwards, sanchez, ryan, flacco, collins, josh johnson and chad henne at QB so far.
And if you look closely even brady has thrown picks and not played his best games against the colts in the past always. I hope BB can manage the game better this yr than last yr where it wasnt his best game with indecision on 4th down and timeout management.
I would be plesantly surprised if we win this one and we do it could catapult our team.
Re: Colts fans confident, worried more about Steelers
Why wouldn't they be confident? I've seen just as much confidence on this board that the Pats will win. Personally, I'm not sure where that's coming from- I'm nervous as hell. I don't think the Pats are overmatched, but I'd be surprised if it isn't a very, very close one.

Pats will win by 8-15 pts.... if you consider that close
We are a better team and the match up's are in our favor.
All that stands in our way is poor officiating...... Pats are a more complete team
If the PATS execute..... they win

after that Carey near hatchet job last week ,you'd think so....but this crew Sunday night has a home team rating either #1 or #2 in the league, as far as penalties called for/against the two competing teams. Don't expect a balance in the calls, IMO.
Re: Colts fans confident, worried more about Steelers
Hopefully, it won't be as bad or worse than 2007, but the Pats still won that game anyway. Bad officiating is going to happen in this game, but the Pats will win regardless.
