Default AP Coach of the year - Smith 24.5, Dungy 20.5, BB 2

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2283709

I have no problem with Smith but your telling me Dungy with no injuries did better than BB by 18.5 votes? Was it the wins, because Holmgren should have won it then IMO. No respect I tell ya.

More bulletin board material.

In all seriousness, does 2nd. place even matter? Who really cares? Not I. I think they made the right decision for coach of the year and that's all that really matters. I can see it now, the players walk into the locker room and they find a Coach of the Year article hanging in the lockers. Yeah, that's going to get them real fired up. Every time I hear the term bulletin board material, the same thing comes to mind and I tend to blurt it out every time. F bulletin board material!! We have plenty of veterans on this team that give us all the motivation we need.

Relax it was done tongue in cheek, it is no big deal and BB would be the first to say it.

The AP hasn't exactly distinguished itself this awards season. I think it was on NFL Network I heard someone say while Shaun Alexander had a marvelous season, if you polled the Seahawk players he would be a distant second to Hasselback as his own teams MVP let alone the leagues. Then of course there's the broken leg vs. stroke decision they wrestled to a tie on.

I think Lovie deserved this award, but Dungy isn't even top 5. Marv Lewis should be a close second if you want to talk about resurrecting franchises. Saban deserved a few votes for turning around the Doofins, as did BB and maybe even Gruden for overcoming injuries (Gruden lost his QB and had to navigate his way to the playoffs with Phil Simms kid behind center).

Dungy won 14 games with a team that only won 13 last season. He took a run at undefeated courtesy of one of the weakest schedules in either league, but came up short as many coaches have. This is just a combination of Indy ballwashing and the sympathy factor.

Got no problem with Smith winning. Hell, they got a first-round bye without an semblance of an offense. That's gotta reflect well on the coach... just like our making the playoffs with our at times crap-tacular defense reflects well on BB.

Hey, that guy got to the playoffs with Kyle Orton. We got there with Tom Brady.

Can anyone pissed about Lovie Smith winning this award?

I don't see how Lovie wasn't unanimous. He is clearly the guy who deserved it this year.

I really don't see how Dungy came so close other than sentimental votes. The way this award is always voted (and I'm not saying it is right just saying it is how votes go) a veteran coach winning 14 games with a team that was either the SB favorite or at worst in the top 3 does not normally get any consideration.
