Every time I hear him explain why his team lost in post game interviews, I ask myself " How and why is he still a head coach?" Even though I was wrong the first time, I will predict it again, Mangini will never be a head coach in the NFL again.

Had anyone else ever heard that about Mangenius' being demoted in his last season with the Pats? If so, it explains his animosity towards Belichick, but even moreso makes Tannenbaum look like a complete idiot. It also makes sense because the Jets poached Mangini from the Pats, so they sure wouldn't have been checking his references with Belichick.
So, it turns out that Belichick sent damaged goods to the Jets. He was still ticked I guess that he had gone to a Division Rival, but this is an interesting twist on the story, if it is true.
My favorite line, in reference to the Rat's appearance on the Soprano's: "I'd rather have Uncle Junior coaching the team than Mangini."

I worked with a guy that was good enough at his job, but he was obsessed with climbing up the ladder. He did no realize he was best suited as a role player. He spent a great deal of time ***** kissing and agonizoing about getting to the lext level...that's my impression of Mangina...all ambition with limited ability and not enough awareness to accept a lesser role and get good at what you do.

I remember BB taking away gameplanning, but Mangini still made the in-game calls.

The Browns got what they asked for, I feel sorry for the fans who continue to suffer. Mangini has continually been rewarded for failure but I think it's time that stopped.
I retract my feeling sorry for comment, once I read this comment someone left bellow the article...
Quote:
Why do people bash Mangini? I've been a Browns fan for a very long time. This team has had poop for coaches since its rebirth in 1999. I believe Mangini is the first great hire as he is a football mastermind and has a definitive plan for transforming the Browns into a winner. Why do we all care so much that he is losing so many games this year when he is clearly building his foundation for the future! I sincerely hope that Mangini is given the 4 years needed to truly rebuild the Browns into the successful team that is once was.

Not true as the visible first sign of discord was down the stretch when Bill started wearing the red hoody and signaling in defenses... On this team the at least prior to the in game communications systems being installed the DC always wore red on the sidelines so guys on the field could locate him quickly.
It was also hinted if not reported that the core vets on defense, particularly the LB's, didn't have a whole lot of use for/rapore with mangenius. Thought he was way too full of himself.
Holley, who became socially friendly with Mangini and now tends to bristle at the criticism of a guy who had a reporter coaching at his summer camps..., wrote in Patriots Reign that Mangini and Bill had a different relationship than Pioli. Routinely got into passionate screaming matches and fought like girls over defensive concepts although they seemed able to get past it once Bill made a decision. I think once Eric became DC he expected to win those arguments. And I think that is the crux of why he left. Ego.
Bill demands discipline and attention to detail and in game execution and adherence to scheme from his players and staff. But he also listens to their ideas and observations and if they make a valid point he acts on it. Eric is a my way or the highway guy. And where Bill is restrained and protective of information, he is also that way with his players. Eric isn't. It's like he's trying to take a page out of Tuna's book on button pushing and he doesn't have a clue where they are.
I thought the funniest thing in this article was the fact that he fought to keep the babysitter employed...LOL

Perhaps during the season Mo, but in the Pats/JAX 2006 playoff game, Mangini is seen wearing red. Maybe BB gave him one final opportunity to "visually" set him up for sucess as he knew he was leaving the team. I do remember BB being downright jovial that Mangini called a play that led to a Samuel INT. BB gave direct credit to Mangini for making the call.
McDaniels seems to have a bit of a temper himself. I don't put a lot of stock into shouting matches between coaches. It happens. Perhaps Pioli is a little more emtionally restrained than the other coaches. Who knows.

I remember the defense in 2005 changing overnight (actually changing over a halftime in KC). Obviously something changed in the lockerroom at halftime against the Chiefs and it looks that was the point where Belichick stripped Mangini of his playcalling duties.
I have always maintained that with a healthy Chad Pennington like Mangini had in 2006, Herm Edwards would have gotten the Jets to 10 wins or more. I think Jets fans were duped into the fact that having a healthy starting QB wasn't a big deal from their bad fortunes in 2005 where both Pennington and Jay Feeley were knocked out for the season.
