Default Pats vs. Jets game wasn't as bad as everyone thinks

I'm not here making excuses just putting my two cents worth about the game. I was watching this game at a sports bar in Miami Beach along with several other Pats fans including several Colts players (They had the Monday night game). Everyone is now talking about how good the Jets defense is and how they dominated the game. I disagree.

Look at the stats. New England gained 299 total yards. Jets gained 254 yards. New England held the ball over 30 min compared to 29 for the Jets. Both had one turnover. Both were inside the red zone 3 times. Looking at those stats, the Pats had the better D. They held the Jets out of the endzone the entire first half.

Now here is what made the difference.. Brady did not look good at all. Thats not just my observation but I overheard the some Colts players sitting at a table behind me saying the same thing. Brady had a wide open Edelman for a sure TD. Edelman ran a cut route on the 2 yard line and Brady threw it too far in front of him. Had that been a good throw, Edelman would have scored untouched. Brady also waited too long on that Galloway TD throw. Brady also had alot of erratic throws throughout the game.

Finally, when we were in field goal range, Brady committed not one, but back to back delay of game penalties. That pushed us out of field goal range.

The Jets played well and deserved to win, but no way did they dominate this game. I for one am 100% confident that Brady will be in 07 form by the next time we play the Jets and I can almost guarantee that we will beat them by a large and convincing margin. I cant wait til Nov.

I agree. Hard to admit that Brady was the problem but it's true. Now whether or not the OL should share some of that responsibility is for another debate.

The OL should shoulder some of the blame. I am not upset with the loss because we could have won. I was just merely pointing out the the Jets didn't dominate this game the way the media and Jets fans suggests

No Welker, no Mayo.....that's a huge difference. I don't most have said it was bad but the playcalling left a lot to be desired. No blitzes against a rookie and they didn't stick with the run game so there was no balance and they were predictable.

The offense had many chances to pull away but Brady is rusty and was off target especially on the Edleman easy walk in TD and to Galloway for a first down inside the 4.

They will get better and as we know it's all about which team is hot going into the playoffs.

Read this breakdown by Ma of Pats Pulpit Relax, New England Patriots are1-1 - Pats Pulpit
It shows it was a small play here and there which made the difference......

No, the game itself wasn't terrible at all. I think the only problems here is that:

1. It's a division loss that plays a huge role in tiebreakers if it comes down to that.
2. It's probably a team we should beat with 2 very tough opponents coming up and now a real chance at 1-3.
3. After all the trash talking the Jets players and coach did the whole week, you'd expect more fire, especially from our leader who had a very poor game.

IMO it wasn't bad, but bad enough. That being said, it's just one loss and we live to see another day.

too many....plays written on player's wrist.........."jeopardy" cardboard signs..........rushed,no-huddle plays....
pre-snap reads.........and all-around,cluster-fu-k chess moves, overloading the neurons of the players.

The difference is that:

- We couldn't score TD's in the red zone
- We only blitzed a rookie QB a total of 3 times (meaning, more than 4 rushers)
- We went completely away from the run even though we were dominating on the ground

We'll still be major factors in the playoffs, but the team is far from a finished product in terms of execution or play calling right now.

Like the original poster said, they had chances, but just couldn't cash in. I think the offense will find a rhythm soon enough and they'll be fine. Both games so far have had a couple of drives that sputtered out in enemy territory that normally would have been scores.

I agree red zone production is the most major issue I saw. That pass to Edelman was a sure TD and that one really, really hurt. The back to back penalties were awful as well. I've never seen him do something like that.
