Default Re: Is O'Connell giving away secrets to the Jets?

In his press conference yesterday, Belichick downplayed any influence a former player could have on a game. Out of the hundreds of plays available, even if the playbook was available to an opponent, there is no way to know which play is going to be called. Every play has multiple options from the same formation, so it really is just a guessing game. The hard part is guessing right.

Plus, tendencies and performance of coaches and players are available on film anyway. If a coach isn't smart enough to change things up, week to week, then he deserves to lose, and Belichick doesn't do much of that.

Exactly, I agree completely. It's like speed limits, you can't enforce them more than .00001% of the time, but it's enough to keep the roads a little safer.

O'Connell left about 10 days prior to the season, the Jets and Pats had not opened at that time.. in this period many things have changed, and the game plan is specific for the Jets... doubt O'Connell can contribute much more than Ryan already knows..

LOL

KOC could definitely tell them about some wrinkles. Bill knows what those are and will adapt/adjust them accordingly. Had we swiped someone from Miami's cutdown list last season we might have had an inkling about the mere existence of the wildcat but that still doesn't mean we stop it because BB wouldn't have spent sufficient time on it until he knew it was in play. Of course there is the possibility that Rex will which would further tickle BB.

KOC didn't spend much time with the Brady led offense given the events of last season, and he didn't spend much time with the new look defense since it's emerging. And given the fact that he was apparently as blindsided by his dismissal as Seymour was by his trade, I doubt critical observation was one of his stonger suits.

Default O'Connell: Game MVP

The new Jets QB killed the Pats...and I don't mean Sanchez. Two pieces of knowledge that I believe set the tone for the Jets D success. First, who would know better about the extent of Brady's mobility and how BB would disguise Brady's weaknesses? Second, who would lay out on a platter Brady's line calls, tendencies, and thought process?....and as a result of this knowledge, force the offense to retool the signals and the process. Given the difficulties Brady and the O had at the LOS, I'd say the O'Connell was a major factor.

O'Connell could not even learn the plays when he was the pats QB so I am not sure that was the problem.

I think O'Connell gave the Jets more info than what everyone seems to think.

Thinking about it last night, the Jets seemed to know every check Brady made at the line. I remember before the last drive they showed Brady putting in a sheet of plays on his wrist, don't know if it was new but it sure seemed that way.

The lack of a offensive coordinator is really hurting this team. Patriots made no offensive adjustments at the half and that is very odd for this team.

O'Connell was a major part in the Jets win. Was the Jets Defense good yes, but with knowledge of the plays and checks before they happen made them outstanding.

This is spot on. O'Connell can't read a defense for sh!t but he had to have learned the checks and changes that would go on. Just because he couldn't make the plays doesn't mean he didn't know what to do.

Please O'Connell had everything to do with this win. Jets knew the termenology at the line and adjusted to the play calling. They knew what was happening as soon as Brady called th plays.
