Wow! Sometimes you really just get your money's worth, doncha?
What a game! Thank God it ended at 10pm because I needed another hour just get myself unwired after that last 5 minutes!
Actually, I was surprised Buffalo gave us the game they did. I knew they had talented receivers in T.O., Lee Evans and Josh Reed, and that those guys would challenge our secondary, but I also think we had some early problems with our pass rush, which then translated into problems in our secondary. We did start to get to Edwards later, though, so that was a good sign, evidence of adjustments, maybe.
Some points:
1. The call on Wilfork for roughing the passer in the end zone was complete bullshot. He had his head down and was already in his extension of the hit when the ball was released. Adalius threw Edwards down and deserved a flag, but Vince did not.
2. He's a great kicker and I wouldn't want anyone else but him, but Gostkowski's miss could have been huge. Thank God it wasn't!
3. Laurence Maroney showed some flash early, and I was thinking, "God, I would love to be so wrong about him and let him have a great season", but it wasn't long before he reverted back to his "Gene, Gene, the Dancing Machine" ways. Did he even get a carry after the second quarter? I think Taylor and Faulk will carry the load this year, with Sammy Morris chipping in. I cannot understand why Belichick sticks with Maroney. Maroney must have pictures of Belichick naked in bed with Charlie Weis or something.
4. Brady definitely looked rusty. He sailed a couple of balls and badly missed Welker on an out route, but that is no tragedy. He and Welker need some time to get on the same page. Tom will be fine and it was so comforting to watch #12 lead those two late drives to take the lead. He is so awesome!
5. There are no style points in the NFL.
Finally, here's why I think the Pats will beat the Jets: Even though he makes like it is no big deal, Belichick hates loud-mouthed arseholes like Rex Ryan and would love nothing better to cram an embarrassing loss down big-mouth Rex's fat, double-quarter-pounder-with-cheese-eating mouth.
Pats 27, Jets 13.
One final observation: I didn’t think I would, but I absolutely loved Jon Gruden on the broadcast! I would love to have him as our coach whenever Belichick decides to hang up the Hoodie.

No doubt. I think people forget that other than 1 series against KC and this preseason, Brady hasn't played in a game since the Giants' SB which was over a year and a half ago. No preseason last year, basically no regular season. Forget the knee, he just needs time at game speed - it's been a long time.

Edwards was still trying to get out of the grasp of Thomas and there was a late whistle. Thomas just finished the play.

You're allowed to throw the QB down. It was a tick left and equivalent to getting a speeding ticked for going 60 in a 55, something you normally don't get but you can - but he was called for piledriving (or whatever the actual word was) which was simply crap. He threw him down he didn't drive him into the ground.

I felt the same way at first (largely because I was irked at the Wilfork call), but whistle or no he used his leverage to slam the QB (again a judgment call as it was not to the degree of the slam by Green Bay on Jim McMahon that ended his season years ago). That is a flag. The ref screwed up in not blowing the whistle as Edwards was done, but Thomas messed up by slamming him. Refs are going to have to figure out a policy of (1) play the game and risk QB hits or (2) protect the QB on these calls, as that was a perfect example of how you can't do both. That was potentially a game changing call, and the fact no whistle was blown when Edwards was in the grasp creates frustration in the defense, and frustration produces mistakes.

Brady was 39 for 53 for 378 yds, and 3 of those incompletes were outright drops. He would have easily surpassed 400 were it not for the drops.
He led the league in yardage for the opening weekend of the 2009 Season after coming off missing the entire 2008 season with a blown out knee.
Not that I disagree with you, but it is just funny what the level of expectations is from Pats fans.
I could not have asked for a better game from Brady. What ever cobwebs he had on the first coule series left him early!

Can you point to a play where this happened? I honestly don't recall a single one.
Re: Wow! Sometimes you really just get your money's worth, doncha?
Yeah, I don't get it either. He was stopped short a few times but I didn't see any dancing. Usually he was grabbed around the leg while trying to accelerate.
And I saw some good things from him too.

That call was A.D. was B.S. That touchdown the Bills scored should have never happened. As I said before, the football gods agreed and Buffalo gave us a second chance.
