Default My observations from tonight's games

I don't totally agree re: light, since I was expecting him to struggle agains schobel.

Honestly, my thoughts can be summed up as: if this game wasn't enough to quiet seymour and watson's critics, nothing will. There are a couple TEs in the league, max, athletic enough to shred the cover 2 like he did tonight.

As for Seymour, we got gashed on his old side plain and simple. Meanwhile Oakland is probably going to win the AFCW, and is absolutely throttling the chargers. Seymour is dominating, and already has a first-quarter sack. Screw it, I'm happy for him.

- Patriots had no business winning this game. However, stupid ***** like this happens in the NFL as I have no sympathy for the Bills. The dumb Brandon Stokley catch, Sage Rosenfels blowing it against the Colts and David Tyree's miracle catch say "hello".
- Brady still looks shell-shocked from super bowl 42.
- 53 attempts is way too many for a QB
- Matt Light struggled throughout the game, but pulled it together when it mattered.
- Mayo's injury is scaring the ***** out of me!
- Guyton struggled tonight. In particular, with a 3rd and 15, Guyton took a poor angle on a screen pass that resulted in a first down. He's still got a lot to learn.
- the rush up the middle was non existent. Banta-Cain did his part by forcing Edwards up the middle but nobody took advantage of that.
- Speaking of the D-line, the Pats 4 sacks are misleading because they got owned the entire night by a re-tooled Bills line. However, it was refreshing to see the Pats pass rush step it up when it mattered most and sacked Edwards twice on the final drive.
- The right call was made on Thomas when he threw Edwards to the ground. The whistle had already been blown, yet Thomas still chucked him to the ground. However, I don't blame him for what he did after getting shafted in the super bowl when him and Green had Manning for sack, yet the refs let him escape, say a prayer and throw a miracle pass.
- In addition, the Wilfork hit might have been ticky-tacky, but he has built a reputation for low blows. With that said, it should've been a no call.
- Despite poor blocking, Maroney ran hard and didn't give up on the plays.
- Ditto with Taylor
- In limited duty, Vollmer looked good protecting Brady. I think it's a matter of time before he takes over for Light.
- Watson came up big with 2 Td's in the 4th quarter.
- What was Wright thinking crashing to the right on a big third down, giving Edwards the entire field to run through? I would've picked up the first down.
- Did I mention the Mayo injury is still scaring the ***** out of me?

looked like a lot of plays on the opposite side I thought. Tons of short throws and screens - not sure seymour would have covered those but his pressure would have helped

I posted my detailed thoughts in a separate thread:

http://www.patsfans.com/new-england-...d.php?t=271717

Unlike most, I'm actually very happy - I think escaping with a win which we didn't deserve may be the best thing that could have happened to this team. Look how many times Peyton rescued the Colts last season when they should have lost. Good teams find a way to win. This is still a team in transition, with a QB shaking off the rust, and a young team. They showed a lot of character when it counted.

Matt Light sucks and has for some time, get Vollmer in there!

  • Matt Light is like a turnstile - Just come on thur
  • "Maroney ran with power and decisiveness" In what part of the game. After the opening kick-off he was the Maroney we all know. He KILLED a drive by losing 3 yards. I am sick of yelling Maroney's name. Face it.. He sucks. Where was Sammy Morris tonight?
  • Did our D line blitz before the 4 qtr?
  • Too many dropped passes

Other than that.. Thank you Brady and Ben Waston!

lucky breaks????

well...a one handed INT by a clumsy DLman to bring the ball to the one is JUST AS LUCKY, in your context....and Wilfork making a completely legal TACKLE being cflagged for 15 and keeping a drive alive for Buffalo was EXTREMELY UNLUCKY for the Patriots.

Luck is where OPPORTUNITY MEETS PREPARATION

brady was great he started off rusty but he was great

the runing game will the OL never opened up any holes

the OL was just plan bad not much more i can say about that

moss welker and watson all played great

the D line was just bad all game long i know we will look at the box score and see TBC had 2 sacks AD had 1 sack burgess had 1 sack

but from what i seen teams can just put 2 guys on wilfork ( WITH OUT SEYMOUR ) and do what ever they want VS the pats run pass what ever they want

as far as seymour go's it looks like he made oakland a top 10..... D

they are puting him at DT and at DE and he is geting
double teamed on alL most every down and still geting to the QB on that all pro O line of SD

Did you actually watch the game or are you spouting hyperbole?

Light- Aaron Schoebel is one of the best DEs in the league. And Light did well against him. There were 2 plays, total, that Light was thoroughly beaten on. That's pretty damn good, all things considered.

As for Maroney, you clearly didn't watch him running. On his 1st run, he had 11 yards and he had 8 yards on the 2nd one. His 3rd run, he put up another 10 yards and his 4th, he had 7 yards. . After those 4, the Pats run blocking was horrible. Except for 1 play, Maroney had 2 or 3 guys in the backfield by the time he got the ball.. How is that Maroney's fault?

You want to knock the guy, fine. But at least have the sense to know what happened in the game if you are going to try and do so.

Default My observations from tonights games.

1. The football gods are sure smiling on the Pats. Tremendously lucky break.

2. hope and pray that Mayo is ok. Be drop off if he is out for long. Guyton did a good job and will be OK but he's no Mayo.

3. Why did they get away from the run. Throwing it 50+ times in a game is going to get more people hurt. Maroney ran with power and decisiveness. Taylor did a good job.

4. The OL needs some major help. I don't know what it is but they were terrible and have been since the 07 post season. Has Light hit the wall? He seemed to have a lot of issues. Neal also didn't do to well.

5. The DL is a big question. But can I be the first to say "WOW" on TBC. Did he come to play or what!! I think a 4-3 DL is the way to go. Didn't see to much of Burgess as he seemed to get pushed fairly easily out of position.

6. WR's - they are a scary bunch. Another big high 5 for Watson. How many on this board wanting him gone during preseason. His speed is what keeps him in NE. Moss, Galloway, and big Watson all have 4.4 speed or better.

7. DB's - hard to say how they done with two very good receivers in Owens and Evans. Meriweather sure was laying the wood on the Bills tonight.

8. LB's - as I said. Guyton was pressed into duty and did a good job. He constantly improves in every game he plays. But he's no Mayo.

9. Brady - I was ready to throw something thru the TV after the first 2 series. But he sure came back the rest of the game. His throws were like lasers. I think he really need those first few series to get back in game "comfort". The rest of the defenses they face this year better be wary.

10. Officiating - I counted no less than 11 offensive holdings, trips, and clips on the Bills Offense without one call. The 2 roughing calls were completely BS.

Overall, pleased with a win, but don't know if my blood pressure can take many of these type games this year.

That roughing the passer call on AD was a travesty and almost cost us the game.

Matt Light sucks and has for some time, get Vollmer in there!
