We have a great improved offense with the addition in 2009 of Brady, Maroney, Taylor, Baker, and Matthews. We should be ahead in lots of game, allowing the defense to be effective as they were in 2007.
We have revamped the secondary. The front seven seems adequate at best. It could be great, or not.
Perhaps if we acquired a top experienced 3-4 front 7 player, this transaction would put us over the top.
But no, it is almost impossible for Belichick to find such a top player who would be able to fit into our defense and immediately be a key player on the defense.
Perhaps we could trade a 2011 first for such a player to put us over the top for 2010 while Brace and Pryor develop.

But Belichick is the best. It is more of challenge to win the Super Bowl without such a player. If the player were on the squad, Belichick would probably trade him away.

But seriously...if you could add any kind of impact player to this team it would be a 3-4 DE? You'd rather upgrade that position than, say, Woods/Burgess, or Alexander, or Galloway, or your choice of CBs? You'd take Seymour over Ware or Polamalu or Fitzgerald or Asomugha?

I'll take the same guy I voted for last year - Ed Reed. Although DeMarcus Ware would be tough to pass up.

If I had an extra 2011 1st and had the choice, there are many areas I might use the pick. Yes, I would take Polamalu or Asomugha before Seymour. I'm less sure about Ware or Fitzgerald.
IMHO, we should jump at the chance to trade the 2011 1st for any of these, including Seymour (and Wilfork who Belichick was also talking about dumping).
