FWIW, Matthews played fullback in college as well as tight end.
Multiple uses. Gotta love it. Looks like we'll be seeing some three tight end sets and I-Formations after all. Anybody know if he's a better blocker than Thomas?

Obviously, Belichick thinks that Matthews is a better blocker than Thomas or Matthews wouldn't be here instead of Thomas. Are you suggesting that we have some secret information?

You just said it yourself, but were backwards....
A SCRUB does NOT play all 16 games, a guy that plays all 16 games is a viable/valuable member of the team, definitely NOT a scrub..
He's obviously more of a BLOCKER than a receiver.........I have no issue with that, as the pats haven't had a good blocking TE since Graham left, and they have sorely needed one.
MAYBE he can catch a TD or 2 as well, as obviously noone will be watching him....

I guess drafting BUMS like "I never play cuz I suck" Wheatley,"see the back of my Jersey as I get burned...AGAIN" Wilhiite, and "maybe my knee will let me play by my 4th year" Tate, wasn't good enough,we've got a guy that is giving Matt Millen a run for his $ by drafting a mediocre special teams player and giving him 1st Rd. cake.
Pass rush? Uneccessary when you have 72 CBS playing.
Lbs? What for, we have no pass rush, they gonna chuck it at our lousy CBS...all 72 of them bums

Ever considered that maybe Belichick didn't like the way Thomas looked as a fill-in fullback and didn't think he was a good enough tight end to keep on the final 53? He might not have gotten released just because his blocking wasn't up to snuff, y'know.

Listen, the coaches aren't going to keep a guy on the active roster if he isn't somewhat active and responsible for his position, so I SERIOUSLY doubt he was used for 2 plays a game......

I was exaggerating it, but I really don't see him as an improvement to the team.. just another third string player.
But the main question is how many plays he was in each game, two? He has scrub written all over him.
Why would you say something so potentially stupid without looking it up first? He's started 11 regular season games in the last 2 years, and was the Giants' top run-blocking tight end. I remember him starting the SB in 2007 too. He saw tons of action.
