I think it may be a dig at Seymour, and Watson. Both are perceived as tankers, true or not.

I'm in the middle. The Hobbit: a capable but not upper echelon starter who would still start on the Pats opening day with Springs an enigma.
I believe it was Reiss that said Hobbs would be about #5 on the depth chart with this team. In doing so, he proved once again that his strong suit is not analysis.

I'm slightly shocked at that if so.
As a Pats fan, I thank Hobbs for playing hurt and giving his all, and I wish him well, except in SBs, with the Eagles.

Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

Admittedly, I'm taking the word of a fellow poster, which is an exercise fraught with peril, but:

The fact that Hobbs is being quoted about his former team speaks volumes to me about his personality...and the fact he would have never fit in here as a nickle/returner role player.

Reiss might have said that going into training camp, but he certainly isn't saying it now. He has been very critical of the secondary, in particular the CBs, the last few weeks. He might say Hobbs would start now. I think he expected Springs to be healthy, Wheatley to return to his pre-injury form, and Whilhite to take a much farther progression from last year than he has.

I see nothing to bash Hobbs about. Then again, when has that stopped any of the lynch mobs in this place?
Hmm... I'd be shocked. Reggie Wayne made Hobbs look pretty silly in the preseason. OTOH, Wayne is a pretty decent receiver.

Which, IMO, is the peril involved in judging players too harshly in the preseason. To me, Wilhite hasn't looked bad at all. It's kind of tough to evaluate a cornerback when they're playing soft zone all day in a vanilla defense. I don't think you can say definitively where Wilhite is in his progression until we see him during the regular season.
