How about Thomas? On likely running plays, line up Mayo and Thomas inside, some combination of Woods, TBC, Burgess and Green on the outside. This way, we have the bulk on the inside to match up with the guards without sacraficing too muh potential pass rush.

So you're saying the Bruschi will get ZERO reps this year, and therefore there are no reps to pick up if he is out?

Thia thread should be saved for posterity. NEVER has Alexander gotten so much support in his linebacker play, not since he came to the team.

Who sets the edge than Woods can on one side (maybe). But on the other side TBC can't , Green has never played OLB, and Burgess only has a small amount of time and not with us. Neither Burgess or Green have picked there hand up off the turf and played OLB for us.

On first down (when the offense is in a running formation and not spread) and short yardage situations your likely combo of LBs is Woods and Thomas on the outside and Bru and Mayo on the inside.

Guyton will get some first down reps and all other ILB reps when there is 2 on the field. and as the year goes on if he can prove to be stout against the run he may get more and more reps from Bru.

So, we are still counting on our three ILB's and have no contingency plan if one of them is injured.

from the ILB. We switched to 4-3 once benson was picking up a good yardage against our Base 3-4.
The play where Sanders made the tackle?

-- Wilfork got driven four yards off the LOS by a double-team, Mayo took on the FB with his inside shoulder to re-route the RB towards Wilfork, who unfortunately was about to land on his ass.
-- Guyton was filling the gap on his side of the formation, he came over once the RB committed to Mayo's side and was sealed by the RG releasing off the double-team - but Guyton hammered him back two steps, further narrowing the hole, which helped Warren and Sanders pinch the runner and limit the damage.

-- On those times when Guyton or Mayo were checked off the LOS, the Guards came out without chipping or combo-ing the DL so they had a couple steps to build up steam before smacking into the ILB duo. The nice thing about that is it singles-up the DL. Guyton and Mayo didn't look too bad as 3-4 ILBs for a couple guys still learning the job and needing more reps to develop and perfect their hand technique.

Kinda but there are some contigencies. In order of how I would go

1) we keep Lennon

2) Seau

3) If three guys got hurt on the inside we would have to turn to Thomas to move in and use guys none of us have confidence in on the outside.

Perhaps I misspoke. I meant that there is no contingency under many proposed rosters. We will see if Lenon or Alexander are signed. I expect one of them to signed. Seau should not be counted on.

Yes, Thomas could move inside if Mayo or Guyton is injured, but that creates a larger problem outside since we would be counting on run contain (setting the edge) from Banta-Cain or Burgess.
