Default Usain Bolt a Patriot in 2010?.... Check out these numbers

I was just watching Sportscenter and they did a brief interview with
Larry Rawson ESPN track in field. He had 3 amazing facts on Usain Bolt.
He said that he did the math and he can validate these numbers.

I had to DVR this so that I got the numbers correct.

Usain Bolt is 6 foot 5 inches and 200 lbs.

#1 From Home plate to the pitchers mound it is 60 feet 6 inches.
By the time Usain Bolt goes the first 60 feet 6 inches his is going 26 mph.

#2 His last 40 yards in a race (At top speed) he does in 2.95 seconds.

#3 He runs the first 40 yards in 3.82 seconds.
(3% to 5% of the fastest football players going into the NFL draft run a 4.4)

The question is..... can he catch a football???

No, the question is.....

Can he rush the passer?

Can you picture him on a cornerback blitz?

I think it's nice to dream....

Sprinters are rarely worth anything as WRs because they can only do one thing well, and that's run in a straight line. Any pro DB would be able to defend against that, even if that runner is the fastest runner in the world.

Also, if speed were a true indicator of success, you'd see speed highly correlated with success. It's not. Reading defenses is very important. Creating separation is important. Being shifty is important. Having good hands is important. Reading a blitz is important.

Not only that, but he probably has the wrong body size to play WR in the NFL. He'd be on the tall end of WRs, and he's light (200lbs). I bet you could jam him at the line and that would be that.

He'd be crazy to do it.

As much as I love football, track is much, much bigger worldwide than football. Millions more know "the fastest man on the earth" than the top American football players.

He can make more cash, doing less, and not getting concussions. He'd need to be crazy to do it.

sounds like a better fit to be a PR for the Sox.

Almost a guaranteed SB of 2nd followed by a SB of third if he is put in on 1st.

Before you laugh at how worthless he would be if he were asked to contribute in any other way (i.e. bat, pitch, defense), think about if Theo didn't make the trade for Roberts in 04.

If I were the world's biggest track and field star, set to make millions on meet fees and endorsements without 300-lb men crashing into me at top speeds, I don't think I'd be looking for a career change.
