Out of the actual draftees that year (DL Kareem Brown, OL Clint Oldenburg, OLB Justin Rogers, CB Mike Richardson, RB Justise Hairston, OT Corey Hilliard, LB Oscar Lua and C/G Mike Elgin) Brown and Lua were the only ones I was somewhat high on after the draft. The rest did little to excite me.

I can't say the same about the 2009 draft - just the opposite... I look at that draft and it wouldn't surprise me if nearly everyone became a contributor.

At first glance, it appears that the draft was a poor one for the Patriots.

Yet this was also the draft that the Patriots traded second- and seventh round picks for receiver Wes Welker, and a fourth-round pick for receiver Randy Moss. (updated 3 p.m.) The team also traded a first-round pick into the next year, which was turned into linebacker Jerod Mayo.

Sounds like my madden team in keeping one or less draft picks. In fact, I don't even bother drafting, I just trade for players that I like.

I won't sugar coat it, that draft sucked but.. most of the players were late round draft picks who ended up being cut from the deepest roster in the free agency era. Plus the some of the picks were for Moss / Welker, etc.

I wasn't sold on Merriweather but seems like he will be a solid player.

That was a pretty good safety draft at the time too.

Meriweather
Landry
Griffen
Eric Weddle
Sabby Piscitelli
Wendling

and let's not forget binky extraordinaire....

Reggie Nelson.

The draft didn't suck. Out of 9 actual draftees, only 1 was in the first 3 rounds, and 6 of the 9 picks were in rounds 6 and 7.

Meriweather is starting for the Patriots.
Brown is in Jets camp
Oldenburg is in Denver
Rogers is in Dallas
Richardson was just cut loose by the Patriots
Hairston was in an NFL camp but got injured
I believe Hilliard is in Indianapolis

Lua and Elgin are playing Madden with everyone else

That's not bad, all things considered. Then you toss on Welker and Moss, and you call it a very successful draft weekend.

You are the easiest grader ever, come on. I could go and recite the incredible stats of each HOF candidate listed above but there is not much point, they are all below average end of roster training camp bodies.
