It always sucks when cancer wins those battles. Very sad news for the Eagles and for the family of Jim Johnson.

And, unfortunately, it almost always does win - as it did with my mom about 5 months ago. It is better once it's over, though, so hopefully this will be as quick as possible for both him and his family.

And, for heaven's sake, if anyone out there has a family history go and get checked. I know I did.

A melanoma is treatable in the early stages by excising the
melanoma and the surrounding tissue. Once it gets below the
surface of the skin it metastasizes and spreads to the brain, lungs,
or liver. I have a dimple on my right calf where an early stage
melanoma was removed.
