Well, aside from the Law Firm's rookie season being "derailed by injury". . . .

Most previews of the Pats seems to leave out the addition of Alex Smith. If there is one thing that stands out this year, it's how stacked the Pats are at certain positions. Although the Pats don't have any super stars at TE, they are stacked with guys that can get it done. In fact, I love this group at TE. Also, if Watson can't get it done, it's not the end of the world because they have two players in Smith and Baker that were starters on their former teams. In addition, I love the potential of the running backs and firmly believe that this group could lead the NFL in rushing.
Other notable positions where I think the Pats are stacked this season in no particular order
1. DL - The addition of Brace could give the Pats a quality backup and potential starter if Wilfork leaves.
2. WR - If Galloway has anything left in the tank, the Pats WR's will dominate almost every team they face.
3. DB - This could potentially be a stacked position if all goes well. The Pats are actively trying to improve the position by drafting high and signing veteran FA's. I think Chung will be a fan favorite from the start of training camp. Also, Merriweather has significantly improved his play from his rookie season so it will be interesting to see what he does in '09. Lastly, I can't wait to see how Wheatley, Wilhite and Butler do in training camp.

Is Alex Smith a lock on this roster?
I think Watson and Baker are locks, not so sure Alex is - I think the team goes with 3 TEs and if Thomas has a good offseason, Smith could be the odd man out - DeVree is all but gone

With no FB, we might keep 4 TE's and have one of them line up at FB in different situations.

This is going to be the best Pats season of the decade. It's the most complete team we've ever had.
It'll be like when Montana came back from injury and destroyed the league in the late 1980's.

Tim's piece could have benefited from some fact checking, he's usually better than this. Still, it was an upbeat piece and captures many of the positive elements we've kicked around here.

I think Alex is more deserving of a spot than Watson...when Alex was given a chance to play in Tampa, he always made the most of his opportunities...
