Makes sense. The Boston sports writers are really good at knowing what Belichick is thinking even when he doesn't say anything.

I think it's so hard to know which of BB's interests are real and which are smokescreens. Still, it wouldn't surprise me at all if they were hoping English would be there at 23 and Chung still at 34. When English went off the board, they traded down and got value. Makes as much sense as anything.

Makes sense except that, in his interview on NFL Network an hour before the draft started, Belichick all but said he would be moving back out of the #23 spot.

The Pats took a bad deal (according to the value chart) to get out of #23, taking a 5th instead of the 3rd the chart suggested. It's pretty clear that Belichick had little interest in targeting anyone for first round money in this draft. The PFW boys said that the Pats top graded players on their board had second round grades this year.

he said all that on EEI yesterday clarified that while "uninspired" it was useful and they were looking for one good first pick and when that wasnt there it made more sense to move down cause they dont need 10 spots they need 3 maybe 4 and this was a safe move by them
