Pats sign UDFA QB Brian Hoyer, Michigan State
They apparently got the guy they want.
According to the Detroit News, his stats (180 of 353 passes, 51% completion rate, 2,404 yards, 9 TDs, 9 INTs) are misleading:
Quote:
McShay said on a "SportsCenter" segment that Hoyer could be a "diamond in the rough" in this year's draft and likened him to Seattle's Matt Hasselbeck and New England's Tom Brady -- players drafted in the sixth round who became Pro Bowl quarterbacks.
McShay admitted he wasn't initially impressed with Hoyer, or the Michigan State offense. But after closely watching film of Michigan State's game against Iowa this past season, the first thing he noticed was six dropped passes in the first quarter. McShay made it a point to mention that Hoyer's numbers suffered this season from 73 dropped passes.
