idk how i feel about this. I dont think that taylor is an every down player. Certainly he can be that vet that teaches the sophmores (and maybe rookies) his skills in pass rushing. Im sure Jerod Mayo would love to have some pointers on that.

I'm not sure if I'm that high on Taylor coming here quite yet. Some days I feel that I am and other days I feel that I am not. Today is the latter. He's aged and doesn't seem all that interested in football anymore. He says it's due to family which is completely respectable. I just didn't think that BB would take on someone who is not fully committed to the team. But, alas, I was wrong about Moss and will probably be wrong about this too. BB knows best, as they say.

I'm up and down about it too. Something about it just doesn't feel right to me. But at the same time, I have no doubt that, if he DOES have his heart in it, Taylor could still be a very good football player.
Like you said, I'm going to yield to BB on this one. If he brings him in, I'm going to trust it'll work.

Indeed. Let me just clarify something before someone takes it the wrong way...
BB likes guys who are committed 100% to football and, more importantly, the team. This is represented in guys like Brady who, even though the workouts are voluntary, still shows up to them. Taylor will not be there if we sign him. If he's not there for family reasons (as he says), then I respect that. I just didn't think that was a BB attitude. However, if BB doesn't mind then neither do I. Kontradiction on PatsFans.com has not won three Super Bowls. BB has.

We are saying the same thing with different words, excpet that I think the Redskins cut Taylor because he refused to show up for workouts. If Taylor wanted he could have made $8.5 million with the Redskins by showing up.
The point was if the Patriots are his top choice, he'd better not expect to get $8 mil from them. THat's what Kraft was sayin (IMO) when he said that Taylor could make it happen. All Taylor needs to do is take $2 mil one-year deal.

As Tom b pointed out, there are erie similarities to the Roman Phifer situation. At that late point in his career, Phifer wanted to stay on the west coast and be with his family. BB wisely found ways to let that happen so that the team could benefit from Phifer's on field game week presence. He was a key factor.

I was thinking along the same lines. There are plenty of examples of BB allowing a veteran to skip workouts or other offseason/preseason obligations. Remember how long it took the team to re-sign Seau in 2007. Remember Moss missing the entire preseason, then busting out 160 yards opening day at the Meadowlands? How many preseason games did Brady play in 2008?
I think it is very reasonable to think that the team intends on signing Taylor sometime after the draft. Until then, BB is comfortable letting the league think that Pierre Woods will be full time starter, waiting for a rival to trade up to land an English or a Barwin.
re: Sources close to Jason Taylor: Pats are top choice (Yahoo)-merged
Jason Taylor is NOT playing for $2M a year. To help you understand, we pay Woods about $1.6M.
If the patriots don't think that he is worth $4M plus incentives, I expect him to go elsewhere. That is certainly what I sould receommend to him.

Just goes to show the differences in a confident veteran coach like BB vs. a first-time, self-conscious & diffident coach desperate to show the team he is in charge.
With Phifer, there was no question that he was going to re-up with the Patriots. My gut tells me Taylor will sign to give both himself the team and himself security - but a phantom injury will allow him to justify staying away from early camp.
