Yeah; given the way the roster is now, and how many "1st day" (oldstyle) picks we have, I hope the Pats will be more aggressive trading up (if not out of) the draft instead of giving away rookie FAs for Cleveland, Denver and Kansas City to lap up in September.

My guess is there just weren't any takers for those picks in 2007. I can't imagine that they didn't at least try, since they had almost no chance of making the roster anyways. . . .

Should make for an entertaining weekend!
Before we talk about trading away draft picks, remember that

the Patriots may lose more than 20 players (10 starters) to free

agency next year. It would be ideal if they could find some

potential replacements this year. They could lose Green, Seymour,

and Wilfork from the defensive line and Kaczur, Mankins, and Neal

from the offensive line.

Agreed. I don't expect any trades to happen unless it's for a high pick next year. Someone who can contribute right away.

Looking at the current roster though we have 65 players and 15 open spots. You figure there are about 5-10 UDFA on top of the 11 draft picks. Maybe there won't be any extra room to sign those UDFA.

I have learned to not get my hopes up for the draft because nearly every year BB pulls a few head scratchers that leaves me unsure how to feel about our draft.

All the experts are saying we made bad moves, yet throw in that caveat that the Patriots have pulled off these kind of bold moves in the past.

Usually, BB is proven right, but at the time immediately following the draft, it can be an unusual feeling of joy, anxiety, and confusion.

But maybe that's just me.

three of those first four picks will turn into starters. one of them may be a pro bowl player. i anticipate great youth upgrade in this draft, which is what we've all been screaming for so long.

kind of a bummer that pioli leaves right at this draft, but whatever. i bet bill deals a few picks. we may have 11 picks, but i wouldn't be surprised to see only 4 or 5 in TC.

yeah i take posts seriously when they say that we could loose 20 players including 10 starters. have we signed anyone through to 2013 yet? holy crap we might not even have a team by then.

Pittsburgh fans have been berserk over this. For future reference, apparently the explanation is included in the secret formula. One of the secrets was the comp for players with 10 or more seasons is capped at a 5th rounder irrespective of the contract they sign or the amount they play or their post season awards... Faneca was in his 12th season.

dumb rule. Though they won the superbowl so they can at least enjoy that.

I agree. With all of the picks, bundle some to move up in the first to grab LSU's Jackson.
