Default GBNReport - SD shopping ST's Ace

March 21

· (1:00 PM): Veteran WR on the Block…Kassim Osgood is reportedly being shopped by the San Diego Chargers. Osgood, a two time pro bowler for his role on special teams, can reportedly be had for a late round pick.
Does anyone know of any injury concern with him? Legal troubles? Kicked LdT's dog?

Nope, but I'll take him. He's a better version of Kelley Washington on special teams. Plus, he can be thrown into the line-up at WR either in 5 WR sets or if injury strikes.

Why would SD be actively shopping a 2 time pro bowl STer for a late round pick? Something smells fishy.

He is at the end of a 4 year contract for reasonable $$ ($750 K per year) and is asking for a trade. He's upset they drafted WR the last few years. AJ Smith must be trying to get what he can for him before he jumps ship...but since it's a contract year why not keep him around????

>>>
Osgood has been dissa tisfied with his place on the team for a few years. But his displeasure spiked when the Chargers drafted receivers Buster Davis and Legedu Naanee last April.
“A fair chance doesn't start out with drafting two receivers,” Osgood said.
He also said his agent has asked the Chargers for a trade at some point in the past year.

Chargers General Manager A.J. Smith said neither Osgood, his agent nor “any other party” had indicated Osgood was unhappy or wanted to be traded. “This is a total surprise,” Smith said.
“I may have to go and reiterate my case,” Osgood said when told of Smith's claim. “ . . . I can just keep begging them, telling them to trade me.”
Osgood signed a four-year contract in 2006 that already has paid him $2.15 million. He is due $650,000 and $750,000 in base salary over the final two years on his contract. Plus, provided he remains healthy, it would seem likely he would make another $800,000 in bonuses for making the Pro Bowl in those seasons.

What a punk.

SD isn't giving him a fair chance because they drafted 2 WRs?

I thought a fair chance was letting a guy compete for a job.

He is basically saying he isn't good enough to compete for the job and SD is being unfair by brnging in people that are better than he is. I'm no fan of AJ Smith, but isn't it his job to improve the team where he can?

This guy wants to go someplace where they will tell him he will play WR and they won't bring in any FAs or draft anyone that might be better than he is and take away his starting position. That does not sound like NE to me.

There are several ST aces in this draft who also excel at their positions. I'm sure BOR can think of at least one I'm referring to.

No way would he come to the Pats. As another poster pointed out, he wants to be traded because he doesn't get enough playing time as a WR. How would he do that here? The Pats already have Moss, Welker, Galloway, and Lewis. Assuming Lewis or Galloway don't wash out in the preseason, Osgood is looking at being the 5th WR.

In other words, he might catch one or two balls every few games. He would be just as unhappy here as he is now in San Deigo. A team like the Jets could trade for him and even let him compete for a starting WR position. If playing time is his issue, what can the Pats really offer him in that aspect?

Osgood's a Boston native, though he grew up in California.

Though honestly if I was going to think about trading for him, I'd just bring back Kelley Washington.
