2 years, $10 million
1st year: $3.75 million salary (guaranteed), $1 million roster bonus, $250k workout bonus
2nd year: $5 million salary
Anybody think this would have been a better deal for the Pats than what Shawn Springs was repotedly given? Adam Schefter reported it was a 3-year deal with a max value of $12.8 million, but I haven't seen any other details on that contract.
With this signing, I wonder if that means that Arizona CB Ralph Brown might be available for a reasonable price.

The Shawn Springs deal sounds awfully high to me for a 33 year old CB. I would have preferred to McFadden deal, or if we could have gotten Bodden for similar money. He still hasn't signed.

I guess McFadden's value was lowered due to his missing time last year with a broken arm, but I considered him the top CB available heading in to free agency this year. By comparison former Buc Philip Buchanon got a two-year, $8.5 million deal; I would have thought McFadden would have made a lot more than $250k/year more than Buchanon.
Maybe this is a good thing, and it will lower the price of the next CB the Pats sign.

He did get more than $250K/year than Buchanon. He got three times that
I guess we need to see some of the details of the Springs deal to really compare the value.
On the face of it, a $5mm/year deal for a young starter like McFadden or Greer is more valuable than a $4mm/year deal for a 33-year old recently-released CB. I think most of us here would rather have youth than the marginal $1mm on a good corner.
If the Springs deal is all incentives and roster bonuses in years two and three, maybe the Springs deal is as good.
Nice deal for the Cardinals. I would have been very very happy with that.

That's a pretty good deal for McFadden isn't it? 5M per year for a starting corner.
It's actually kinda reasonable when you look at a lot of other corners. Lots of 'average' guys this yr were demanding 6-7 million/yr. Then you of course have the elite CB's making 8-9 million/yr or more. Look at what the Colts gave Kelvin Hayden--rediculous. I can imagine someone giving Ellis at least 8 million/per next yr, if not more. He will indeed, demand that kind of money.I would've loved to at least have looked at McFadden, especially for 2 yrs/10 million. Seems like BB dosen't agree with the so-called going rate for CB's, or at least not in our scheme
If he was pricing himself out of the Patriots range, this could possibly bring him back to reality. I don't think he gets more than 3 years/ $9million anywhere now.
I wouldn't be shocked to see the Pats make another run at him.
