Shefter is on NFL Network tonight and he was saying that the people around the Patriots and football that he's talked to are telling him they think Cassel in a Top Eight QB in the league. That's paraphrased, I didn't get it exactly right but Mike Lombardi chimed in and said he hears much the same thing. Crazy.

ON Total Access just a few minutes ago, Adam said the Patriots and many other people he's been talking with who know QB's consider Matt one of the best QB's in the NFL. Michael Lombardi said he's been hearing the same thing.

It's so amusing to hear some of "us" saying "he had a nice year and all, but..." or call him Derek Anderson pt II

Not one of the cited QB failures put up a solid YEAR, gaining speed, lossless in December, missed the Playoff's due to a quirk - NONE.

It was further stated that if Matt were able to have been at the combine this year, he would easily be considered the top QB.

Schefter went on to say that if it's true that he's that good and your team needs a QB - you find a way to get that deal done.

This will be a blockbuster trade, especially factoring in Matt's history and the circumstances.

So the next time you want to say "well he had Randy Moss and Wes Welker" I submit you just don't watch enough football. Moss and Welker can't catch a flying turd any better than anyone else.

You are in denial if you believe this trade will happen for a couple of thirds or even seconds.

No doubt Cassel improved each and every week.

If the Patriots are this high on him one would think Pioli is as well.

Sounds like an overrating, but try naming 10 better.
Here, IMO, are the guys, by division, who are in the argument, those not listed are clear-cut not as good as Cassell.

Thats a total of only 15 that you could even make an argument for.
In other words, no matter whether you overrate or underate Cassel he is better than more starting NFL QBs than he is not better than.

I personally agree with this. Watching film of Cassel the last 4 games of the season, he looks almost "Bradyesque" at times. He really looks more like Tom Brady than any other player I have seen.

Cassel has a lot of room to improve, but the way he has worked and studied, I have no doubt that he will only get better. He has rare poise, and the mental attributes which are so key to being a great QB.

Of course it would be possible to put him in a situation with no WRs and a horrible line where he was running for his life, but in a decent situation I think he would do just fine. I can't believe how stupid teams like Minnesota, Chicago and TB are being about this. The chance to trade for a serious "franchise QB" candidate doesn't come around very often. If the Pats were on the other side of things (needing a QB to be a major competitor) they would be going after him with no holds barred.
