If Cassel is worth 14.6 million what is Welker worth? There are alot of contracts due at the end of next year. Will Cassel's one year payout make the other players want more? Cassels won all of 11 games. Wilfork is the most important guy on defense.The Patriots have always had a team first attitude and players salaries have feel in line.Does Cassels contract change this?

if cassel will remain(but he will not remain)the pats will restructure his contract

no, these players play different positions, and as stated in other post, the pats dont want to pay cassel that much but if brady is unhealthy and we need to keep him that is the only amount the franchise tag will allow us to pay him and keep him. Hes not going to sign a two year contract for less money to start a couple of games until brady gets back. That wouldnt help his career as an individual.

I hope you are right. The so called experts think Cassel will stay. It makes no sense unless Brady is done as a Patriot.

I think all the players whose contracts are up are going to

want to be paid close to market value. There will be no

drastic home town discounts. Wilfork will expect a 6 million

dollar a year contract.

Actually, on a minor point, Cassel can agree to accept as little as 120% of his 2008 salary. Of course, he'd be insane to do so, but in theory he could.

That's always been the case minus some notable exceptions like Bruschi. These guys work to get paid.

Yes, but you, I, and any other logical person knows that he would be crazy to do so, and more importantly, he will not do so.

One of the main reason the Patriots were still in the playoff hunt after all there injuries is because they had depth at certain positions. Will they lose that depth in keeping Cassel? If they keep Cassel.
