Default Brett Favre's decision and when he makes it may affect the Patriots

I read on several Minnesota online newspapers on how Minnesota wants to start serious talks with Brett Favre if and when he decides to leave NY or retire again - The Jets would have to give Green Bay 3 first round draft picks if they simply trade Brett to Minny which will never happen so the Vikings are in wait to see what happens there

If Brett decides to stay in NY or stay retired (yeah, right) - then Minnesota is reportedly interested in Cassel as thier only 'alternate' choice and depending on what NE does it could mean some type of trade (player or draft or a combo)

Its apparent that Minny badly wants one of the AFC East QBs to be thier starting QB in 2009 - Which one it will be may be decided by Favre and the Jets

IF NE does franchise Cassel and do a trade with Minny could you see maybe Darren Sharper and a low round pick from Minny or something like that in return? - I like Sharper and he would make a great addition to this team but I doubt Minny would get rid of one of thier better secondary players for a trade of a still unproven QB outside of NE but stranger things have happened.

Am I missing something or do these GMs need mental help. Why would Minny go for FAvre and retard the team development and especially a long term QB solution.
Do these people really think he still has it or are there other factors such as tickets sales, etc..

If I were a GM he would be my last option.

Minny is dumb, but not that dumb to go after Favre.

They have a strong defense and stud RB. They should pull the trigger for Cassel, who is better than any QB prospect coming out.

From what I read, apparently they ARE that dumb!

It could be simply they want the rivalry between the teams (Minny/GB) in that division to heat up drastically next season and maybe some prime time on those games

However that won't help thier QB situation or thier hopes of making the playoffs as Favre may give Minny more media coverage but won't help them with wins

I think Cassel is a perfect fit for that Philly style offense in Minnesota. Here's their latest speculation :

"Meanwhile, there is growing speculation that the Vikings are considering making a serious bid on New England quarterback Matt Cassell, who could have the one-year, $14.65 million franchise tag slapped on him by the Patriots."

He's such a marketable product that I swear Brett Favre will haunt this NFL forever.

Sharper and a low round pick for Cassel? Do you really think Belichick is that stupid. Sharper will be 34 before the end of next season. What does he have 1-3 years left in him? Cassel can get the Pats a first round pick and they could use it on say William Moore who could be the Pats franchise SS for the next ten years. Yes, a first round pick is a gamble, but Sharper pushing 34 at the start of the season isn't exactly a lock to be a Pro Bowl player anymore.

I think the Vikes are one of the better options for the Patriots. I think a team with too high of a first rounder like the Chiefs will shy away from parting with their first rounder. A team with a later first round pick like the Vikes may feel compelled to add a third or fourth rounder to sweeten the pot for Cassel.

Favre is exactly the kind of QB that the Vikings don't need. I almost hope it will happen, just so that I can watch a couple of games where they dominate the game on the ground, win the field position battle, stop the run, set themselves up for a win, then give it all away when Favre throws some inexplicable and boneheaded interception.

What the Vikings need is a smart QB who won't make stupid mistakes that counter all of the team's strengths. Cassel fits the bill, but it looks like they might be more concerned with having a recognizable name to get people to come to the stadium next year than winning.

JSn says, "google+matt cassel=neverending headlines." Matt Cassel is a recognizable name. Not that Brett isn't, but over the last year it's a name attached to a lot more good feelings and hope for the future than Favray, and he's being discussed in more news articles at present than Brett is.
