Default NFL looking at overtime rules

ProFootballTalk.com - NFL HAS LOOKED AND WILL CONTINUE TO LOOK AT OVERTIME RULE

Who didn't see this coming in light of the Colts losing in OT.

I don't care for the overtime rules myself but there's no way they look at the rule if the Colts win the toss and get the FG, no way in hell.

I laughed when someone suggested this would happen, but I have to admit this is rather odd.

Of course, a coin flip may have kept the Patriots out of the playoffs by costing them a tremendous comeback win against the Jets (debateable I know, given the 3rd and 15, blah blah blah). You could just as easily say Kraft played a part in this as you could Polian / The Colts.

I posted this on PFT, but I will post it here too.

I also hear that the rules committee is looking to implement a rule that if you continually get over 10 wins every year and choke in the first round of the playoffs virtually every year, you automatically get a bye to the Super Bowl the following year.

The rules are going to be changed so that if a team has a

member on the rules committee, that team always receives the

kickoff in overtime.

Kraft doesn't have a history of getting rules changed as a direct result of his own team's misfortune.

Don't they talk about this every year? I hate the OT rule and hated it long before the Colts lost to the Chargers.

The NFL should adopt the college rules with regard to overtime.

They should adopt a 15-minute quarter and whoever leads at the end wins.

I feel even the current NFL system is better then the college system's amateur backyard football type of deal.

Plus that would crazily inflate so many stats.

Players wouldn't want that and neither would I.

They would be taking such a physical toll on their body.

Stick with the 15 minute quarter, but guarantee each team equal possesions until the quarter ends. If the team that gets the kickoff scores then they kick off as normal to the other team. Then that team must score either to tie the game ensuring another round of possesions or to win the game.

Its fair and its practical. It would be a mix of the current OT rules with a repeat of the fourth quarter. Play until either the clock ends or one team has more points than the other after a round of possesions.
