All this crap about fighting for the #1 seed spot has done NOTHING for any team since the 2003 Patriots -
Its looking like its not a big deal about being the #1 anymore - Heck, even a team 16-0 could not get it done (you know what team THAT was )
The #1 seed is a waste and bad luck since this decade started,Teams getting the #1 and sitting for a week have all but for a very few, come up flat as a pancake near the end.
From now on I want our team to play well early..in december and into January and grab any spot they can - you can have that #1 seed
The #1 seed lately has just been a spot where the team just has to sit and wait till they get eliminated or lose in the SB - Its like being on death row knowing you are going to die but don't know when.

Well, being a 1 or 2 seed certainly has served the Pats well when they've landed it. I think playoff results down through the years still show greater success enjoyed by teams that get a bye, although it certainly is no guarantee.

Didnt serve them WELL ENOUGH last year
You really have to wonder that if they didnt get that week off last year, were they ready to continue the roll without interruption, not counting the bye week of course and I believe there was also an extra week layoff before the SB as well although I cannot remember if last year was the designated year for a 2 week SB wait

Can we please stop with this nonsense? The Patriots were the #1 seed last year and made it to the Super Bowl. The seed worked fine. The seeding system is NOT designed to have a particular team win the Super Bowl. If it was, there wouldn't be TWO #1 seeds.
Good Lord, some of you people...........

I don't think being #1 overall is that important but I would definitely say that getting a bye is important. We had the bye in each of our SB appearances but one (86).

What roll? They almost lost to the Eagles, Giants, and Ravens down the stretch and continued their mediocre play against Jax and SD. The Patriots didn't win because they weren't the best team at the end of the season. They almost lost a number of games but got lucky. Their luck ran out in the SB. This year, the Giants were the best team for most of the season, but losing Plax killed their offense. They lost because they just aren't that good, not because they had a week off.
All things being equal, it is much better to have the bye week. Obviously, playing 2 games gives you a much better statistical chance of making the SB than if you have to play 3 games. Plus, home teams get that home cooking from the officials.

It's called drawing conclusions from a small sample.

You're no fun. Well, since I found this article...
Quote:
Seven times in the first eight seasons of this decade, a No. 1 seed has lost the Super Bowl.

Of all 8 Super Bowls in the new millennium,How many #1 seeds have won the Super Bowl this decade - including BOTH #1 SEEDS?
Yep,thought so - 1 out of 8 - That answers my question,thank you
Who gives a crap if you get to the big dance but find out you are not the best dancer? - After all the big deal in the end The Patriots got the same trophy the Lions got this year - nothing
