Every time a job opens up this rumor resurfaces.

Don't we go through this every year?
How many times will they cry wolf before they get it right?
Even a blind squirrel gets a nut once in while if it keeps trying.

If Pioli is as good as everyone says, he ought to WANT to get out of BB's shadow and run a team himself, the same way BB wanted out of Parcell's shadow.

That is the conumdrum. If he really is good, he'll be gone eventually. If he isn't as good as we think, he'll stay here.

Just like with oordinators. The really good ones leave to be head coaches.

The only way Kraft can keep him is to give him final say in personnel matters.

Given the caliber of NFL commentators, I'm surprised no one is speculating that Belichick will want to go to a new team tou get out from out of Pioli's shadow.

You're assuming that Pioli is like everyone else--which may not be the case.

As an example here with the Patriots, don't you think Dante Scarnecchia could have at least been an OC by now if he wanted it? [Quite simply, he doesn't.]

Every team MB has discussions about rumors of possible coaching/front office change and they can be broken down into two groups:

Group A:
OMG our HC is considering retiring.
Team X is talking to our DC about becoming HC
Team Y is wants our GM

Group B:
Will X get fired?
Can we get Y?
I want the entire coaching staff fired!

Be greatful we live in group A.
