3-4 ends are considered as defensive ends in the franchise player calculations.

Wouldn't the top 5 DEs make more in average salaries than the top 5 DTs?

Also, as I've been saying for about a year, if it comes down a choice between extending Seymour or Wilfork, Seymore to me is a higher priority and a better investment. Hopefully, this is a choice that only exists in my head and the front office will find a way to sign both, but I came away with a thought last night while watching Cody of 'Bama.

More so in our system, and the same applies to Wilfork, how high are GMs willing to invest a top 5 - 15 draft pick on a two down player, and how responsible is it in the grand scheme of things to resign even excellent NTs to high salaries when they're essentially two down players. Not to take anything away from the importance of a line clogging NT anchor in a 3-4, and I've was very happy the Pats drafted Wilfork because I wanted them to do so since prior to the Warren draft, I think this needs to be seriously considered nonetheless.

According to the USA today database, Seymour is #10.
Code:
1. Peppers, Julius Panthers $ 14,137,500
2. Schobel, Aaron Bills $ 8,723,555
3. Abraham, John Falcons $ 8,501,920
4. Suggs, Terrell Ravens $ 8,475,000
5. Allen, Jared Vikings $ 8,002,531
6. Gbaja-Biamila, Kabeer Packers $ 7,726,828
7. Taylor, Jason Redskins $ 7,500,000
8. Castillo, Luis Chargers $ 6,989,380
9. Williams, Mario Texans $ 6,881,720
10. Seymour, Richard Patriots $ 6,836,720
Keep in mind, though that since this is based on total cap value the way teams handle bonuses and assign salaries to each contract year makes a big difference. For example, after Freeney got such a great contract last offseason he is #15.
