Default Reiss: Seymour standout, Warren missed

Good breakdown by Reiss:

Seymour a standout; Patriots missed Warren - Reiss' Pieces - Boston.com
Quote:
On the flip side, the Steelers gained chunks of yardage to the defensive left side, where Ty Warren would normally be lined up in the base 3-4 alignment (Mike Wright started in his place). Accounting solely for the times the Patriots were in the base 3-4 alignment, the Steelers had six runs to that side for 53 yards -- including carries of 13, 20 and 13 yards.

I'd also add in there that it looked like the Pats were in a 3-3-5 nickel package A LOT yesterday and that could account for some of the big runs. To me, it looked Woods was taken off the field in place of a DB (even before the injury), and that the three LBs on the field were Vrabel, Mayo & Guyton. Anyone else notice this? I did not tape yesterday's game so I cannot rewatch.

waiting for trade seymour crowd to get here......

we played a lot of nickel to help coverage and they are bad anyway. our strength is the front 7 and man we cannot even play them.do you also realize that seymour was pulled on 3rd down. he was on weei and said he is not the coach but indicated that you play your best players on 3rd down .he sounded a bit unhappy he could not play on 3rd down.

Wright got annihilated yesterday against the run. Warren is a spectacular defensive lineman and his being out is very, very big. Note that he did not play against the Jets or the Steelers, and both teams had good running days. Yet the Dolphins did not run the ball well.

That said, Seymour looked good yesterday.

I normally love seeing Wright enter the game (a lot like when Jarvis would come off the bench). He comes in fresh and can be a factor when he's in there for 10 - 12 plays a game. But watching him start and play consecutive snap after consecutive snap is just brutal.

Have we used Wright as a LB yet this season?

i say put jarvis, warren, seymour and wilfork on 3rd down and see if they can get after the QB.playing coverage isnt helping anyway right now.

How about Green, Warren, Wilfork, Seymour, and Thomas (he'll be back) with the rest dropping into coverage (Woods, Guyton).

If those guys can't get some pressure... sheesh. hehe

well i was just talking the D line. i guess the LBS , mayo, thomas and vrabel will be still in.
but i dont think thats BB's defensive philosophy. he likes to play sound coverage and induce mistakes . unfortunately the 'sound' part of that is broken right now to say the least.

Personally, I like seeing Vince in on some pass rushing situations. He takes up space and makes it harder for the QB to step up. He was in there a lot in the Miami game, and even though he's considered a running down only kind of guy, off and on throughout the season he's been involved in the passing packages.

When Adalius is back, I think a 3-3-5 nickel package is our best bet in coverage, with the 3 DL being Green-Wilfork-Sey, and with the 3 LBs on the field for passing downs being Adalius, Mayo & Guyton, all 3 can drop in coverage or rush the passer. Or, depending upon how Vrabel's production in the pass rushing is by that point, go 2-4-5 with him as one of the 4 LBs, and with either Green or Wilfork coming off the field (again, I like Wilfork there on passing downs).
