Default How would Cassel do with an average team?

haha these trade brady posts are funny & i seriously hope nobody is actually serious that they would keep cassell over brady..yea ill agree that cassell has improved but do u actually think he would be playing this good with a bunch of average recievers?..thats the diff. between an eilte QB & a pretty good QB..i honestly dont think cassell would go far without star players like moss, welker, faulk etc..i like cassell though but brady is in a league of his own

Perhaps we'll find out next year...then again this was a pretty average team to start the season and he still helped put them in a position to win.

It depends a lot on the kind of team. The problem would be on a poor team such as the Lions or Rams. All QBs struggle if the O-Line is poor and Cassel took a lot of sacks this season. OTOH if he was on a team with a good running game and was asked to 'manage' the game he could be very good (hello Vikings or Bears). If he is smart he will go for the best team, not the best paycheck. You can't call the Pats average at any time this season - they have an awesome level of talent on offense that Cassel won't find anywhere else.

I'm probably in the minority, but I don't think Cassel does nearly as well without the play book and personal of the Patriots. I watch all NFL games, and you just don't see the innovative WR screens from most teams. Not every team has a guy like Welker, and a playmaker like Moss. Am I saying its the system? Yes, I guess I am. But Cassel on a bad team, and they are still bad ..IMO.

I fixed it for you. I don't think we can appreciate a coaching staff that has done as much and helped both these QBs become the players that they have become. (Yes- I know Brady is potentially the GOAT but think back to '01 when they eased him into the transition , much like this year) It will be interesting to see if Cassel succumbs to the 'curse of the ex-Patriots' that has befallen almost all who have left NE.

With an average team, he wouldn't be throwing for 400+ yards in 2 consecutive games. I do think he ranks in the top 10 of NFL starters (including Brady). In fact, I think there are really only 5 QB's I'd definitely take over Cassel right now (Brady, Manning, Manning, Romo, and Brees...maybe Favre).

I think he's much more of the QB we saw early, minus the sack totals. Assuming he goes to a team with an average OL, his pocket presence has improved drastically and that should stay with him.

Where he will drop off is 3rd down completions (without Welker) and maybe a little in TDs (without Moss, who has 8 of his 13 TD passes). This is all assuming he doesn't go to a place that has similar weapons.

I think you still see a 60%, 3000 yard guy who throws a few more (5 or so) TD's than Ints. if he goes to a team that has a good defense, he'll be just fine.

If this is a successful year, he'll have the mental placeholder to be a great QB. That's why I hope he signs with a real team (aka NOT Oakland or Detroit).

He's good enough that I wouldn't be sad to see him leave the division, that's for sure.

I agree. And if our defense is similar next year (I'm hoping for a few changes), he's exactly the type of QB that kills us.
