This past weekend the Colts-Pats game was big. Really big.
Not the game -- neither team being 7-0 made it a little less dramatic -- but the premiere of a new Peyton Manning Commercial.
If you missed it (if, for example, during commercials you were too busy using a thesaurus to look up new ways to say "Fire McDaniels" in the Official Game Thread) Peyton was shown enjoying free hotel nights, while snide comments from hotel porters and maids went completely over his head.
Which made me wonder: by commercials like this one and the immortal "cut that meat", Peyton has made a career of looking like a really nice dumb guy. Yet during games he stands at the line, waves his arms like a madman, and shouts babble usually ending in "hike". And is hailed as a genius. What's wrong with this picture? When will the 98% of NFL commentators who think Manning is Albert Einstein reincarnated catch on to the fact that the commercials show the real Peyton and the shouting and arm-waving is just an act to pretend he's actually doing something? I don't get it.
Anyway, there was indeed a Pats-Colts game between the commercials, and we lost a close one. Often we when lose opposing fans or Pats contrarians win, but this week the top six got the winner wrong but still almost predicted the correct score. This is a big part of the Predict the Score contest: predicting the general way the game will play out is as important as picking the winner.
A trio of players missed by just 6 points: Calciumee, PatriotDynasty_12, and PATSNUTme. But one player did better.
