Default Cassel vs. the Vaunted Vet Backup

From Reiss's mailbag:

Entering Monday night's game, 12 NFL teams had called on a backup quarterback to either start a game, or enter a scoreless game in the first quarter. Eight of those teams have losing records in those situations. So I think it's clear that when teams have to go to their backup, it's usually bad news.

Just furthur evidence of how many Pats fans are thoroughly spoiled by Brady and wining. The fantasy fans throw a tantrum when the team is not scoring 40 pts/game. Kinda quiet on that front this week, but wait untill Cassel has his real stinker of a game throwing 2-3 picks when he is the main reason the Pats lose. All QBs have a game or so like that. Farve a few more than most.

I remember reading a article in the off-season and it said something that there 60 QB's that started in at least one game last season. That's a pretty amazing stat.

How many backups have posted a QB rating as high as Cassel in an individual game ?

So you mean most teams dont have an all star back up QB as many complained we did not have and were at fault for not having.

Usually a QB is a back up because he sucks as a starter. There aren't enough starting quality QBs in the league even when the position is at full strength. That is why guys like JT O'Sullivan, Brodie Croyle (at least until he was IRed), and Kerry Collins have starting jobs.

I don't know if Cassel is the best back up the Pats could have had going into the season, but once Brady went down he was their best option to replace him.

I do agree that people are spoiled with Brady. I think there are far too many people on this board who jump off a cliff every time there is a remote sign of trouble.

Many of them do have an "all star QB" that went to the pro-bowl when Matt was a star QB at Chatsworth High School. It just they suck now.

I heartily disagree. Not enough people jump off a cliff every time there is a remote sign of trouble.
