LOL. Welker on any other team would have trouble getting 800 yards a season.

Pure homerism. I love Welker and he works out great in our system. He's a nice compliment to Moss and he moves the chains well. Don't get it twisted. Welker could not be a #1 WR on ANY team in the league, so how could he be a top 5 WR.

Without Moss, Welker would not produce nearly the same way he does now.

You're retarded is you think Welker is a better WR than Bolden or Fitz.

Not to be condescending, but I think you don't understand how to evaluate the position. You're right, in colloquial terms, Welker wouldn't be so great as a #1 reciever. You're thinking of a "#1 reciever" as a split end. A big, long fast guy who has decent agility and can win the jump ball. Look beyond the most simple, highest level evaluation when you look at Welker.

He has out of this world quickness and agility. Like world-class quickness. His footwork is the best I have ever seen on a reciever. He feels coverages, knows how to cut (read: not just one of those pretty jukes, but an effective cut against the grain, opening another 3-5 yard lane) and he blocks like hell. He advances the ball after the catch, he's tough, he's smart. Just because he doesn't run a 4.2 and isn't 6'3 230 doesn't mean he's not a stud.

You probably just don't know how important a world-class y is in this game. I'm not trying to be a dick, I just honestly don't think you know how a player like Welker can be utilized in all phases of the offense. The utility his skill-set allows is far more important than that of a guy who can run 15-yard ins.

No, I think he knows what he's saying and he is right. Welker is not a top 5 WR. Let's put it this way ...

The NFL is totally blown up and teams are completely re-drafted. In this scenario, Welker is not one of the top 5 WRs taken, and it's not even close. Basing it just on one-year performance (i.e. not factoring in younger slightly less talented WRs being worth more than older slightly more talented WRs) these guys would be rated higher:

Moss
Owens
Marshall
Fitzgerald
Boldin
Calvin Johnson
Greg Jennings (should be a Pat ... )
Andre Johnson
Steve Smith
Wayne
Burress
Edwards

Then maybe you can start making arguments for Welker after those guys when you get to Housh, Santana Moss, Bowe, etc. So you could certainly say top 20, but no way is he top 5. I love the guy, and he is the #1 slot WR, but if you are ranking WRs the only true way I can think how (i.e. teams building a team and picking them), he is not top 5.

We can add to those stats:

Cap hit:

Leinart: $4,583,333
Cassel $540,220

Cassel is he least paid among the 22 starters for the NEP. But when Cassel makes a mistake he is crucified when Light who is being paid 10 times as much does nobody notices.

Since you all seem to know so much about Leinart, I would also assume you know the offenses are significantly different and the QB's are asked to do different things?....The Cards, with the WR's they have throw a lot more middle and deep paterns than the Pats do. If Leinart was throwing 5 yard outs and slants to the best #3 WR in the league, I think he would have at least a 64% pass completion percentage....but again....you probably knew that...

As far as WR's, it is all about position and matchups. I would take Welker as a #3 over a lot of the players, including Jennings, that are posted above. In golf there is a term "Horses for Courses"....same concept applies to WR's. Welker is a perfect...repeat....perfect fit for what this team does with him.

Cassel is a starter here and Leinart is not but I would think he wishes he could have swapped with Leinart places at least one night and spent an evening in that hot tub with those ladies

Good analysis. I'm a BIG Welker fan and it does not demean or diminish his contribution to put his value in context. Kudos to the NEP for realizing that their #2 draft pick would flourish so well here.
