Good News: 2 whole days to do a trade for a decent QB or respectable DB
The team still can save the season by trading for a respectable QB that played more than a few downs in College or a DB that was not a reject from the 0-6 Bengals
We still have hope in the season..until the tuesday deadline ends that is
But if the team stands as they are and Cassel is the QB and O'Neal is the 2nd DB then maybe we can get the 7th pick again next season...but it won't come from a trade....just from ineptness in the 2008 season this time

O"Neal actually had good coverage on the two long plays. SD receivers made tough contested catches. Cassel, however, can't play. BB owed it to the other 52 players and the staff to bring in a veteran week one and failed to do so. People will say it's too late to bring someone in, but the team needs to trade for someone now because next year Brady's status is uncertain as well.

No he didn't! Jackson took the inside angle on the first catch and Malcolm Flyod took the inside angle on the second catch. It looked pretty funny on the replay showing O'Neal running towards the outside when both receivers easily sheilded him off.
I don't see a trade coming, especially for a QB. The Pats had their chance with Sheppard.

Specifically, who or what are you suggesting we trade for whom?

This isn't baseball. Unless you think that replacing Matt Cassel and/or replacing the DBs is all the Pats need to win the SB, then trading for a QB/DB will:
(1) Take away cash that could be used for other purposes (e.g., resigning Wilfork).
(2) Take away a draft pick.
(3) Lower the remaining picks, and make them less valuable.
In other words, unless BB truly thinks that these trades would be "the key," it's just not likely to happen.

To tell you the truth I have no idea
I think there should be a decent quarterback on a roster with some experience that could do better than Cassel or a rookie like O'Connell which is not the answer.
Trades could get juicy if you take a chance and deal with a team and dangle a decent draft pick to them in exchange.

Re: Good News: 2 whole days to do a trade for a decent QB or respectable DB
We are stuck with Cassel for the season. Get over it! There's no one out there who would do at least as serviceable a job at the position. We are riding that horse off into the sunset - that's all there is to it.
It should be painfully obvious to all that the Deltha O'Neal signing was a big mistake. This is how he played at Denver. This is how he played at Cincy. This is how he's playing for New England.
The guy is not going to get any better. There's a reason he's a journeyman, and not a very good one at that.
I think both BB and the organization would benefit by cutting their losses on this one.
(Gawd, it looks like the Duane Starks saga in replay!)

The Pats, thank God, did not cough up a draft pick for O'Neal.

Re: Good News: 2 whole days to do a trade for a decent QB or respectable DB
You trade for a QB now, he won't be ready until December at the earliest. Unless there is a QB available with experience in the Pats offense available, it will take at least a month but probably two for them to get up to speed with the offense. Why bother?
A DB is a possibility, but there is no one being dangled and even then it will take about a month for him to be up to speed with the defense.
