Re: Pats Doing Well Will "Tarnish Brady's Legacy"?
Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. I am presently surprised by Cassel's performance thus far, but let's keep it in perspective. He beat the Chiefs and the Jets - not exactly the cream of the NFL crop.
He should be able to engineer a win over the Dolphins but they had his number last year and that has got to be rattling around in the back of his mind. Furthermore, I believe that his performance has been aided by a lack of film. It is harder to prep for an unknown QB that it is for one for whom there is a plethora of film.
Personally, I have felt that he was retained because he is incredibly intelligent. I suspect still that he lacks the talent to be an NFL QB; admittedly that remains to be seen. If he continues to perform at a reasonable (not a Bradyesque - no QB has matched his talent or potential thus far) level, I will most certainly amend my opinion.
Tarnishing Brady's Legacy? Only Brady could do that and I can't imagine that ever taking place. I'm just content for the Patriots to fly under the radar, in the middle of the pack for season. January and February are the months to shine.
