Default Is Brett Favre kicking himself this morning?

One of the options that Brett Favre openly considered was staying retired but waiting until the first couple of weeks of the season to see if a premier QB went down on a bona fide SB contender.

This morning Favre is waking up somewhere in Northern New Jersey, playing for the Rat and "Woody" Johnson on a mediocre team that was cobbled together after a 4--12 season, when the ownership and fans went berserk that the Giants had won everything. Brett is realizing that he could be a few hundred miles north, getting ready for a workout with Bill Belichick and Bob Kraft and the best team in the league in Foxboro, a town much more like Green Bay than anything he'll find in Jersey.

So, what do you think? Is Favre kicking himself? Might this have worked?

Let's put aside the dislike that most of us have for Brett Favre for the moment. This is the NFL. What we "like" is a lot less important than winning.

Personally, after thinking about it, I'm not sure. Favre would have needed three or four weeks to get into the system, during which time the team would have been playing in limbo with Matt, as QB, a "leader" who wasn't really a "leader." But, he is Brett Favre, a HOF QB with two SB appearances and an SB win under his belt...

(I know this is hypothetical, but, hey, half of what we talk about out here is hypothetical one way or the other.)

Chad Pennington might be a little regretful, I don't think Favre is.

I agree plus Favre is known for his laziness which Beli would not want to put up with. Favre even admitted the didn't know the jets playbook and just winged it in Miami.

I don't think BB wants to "prove" he can win with Cassel.

I also don't think BB thinks Favre is that great. Mostly because I don't think he's that great (anymore).

Remember when TB was asked "Would you rather throw 5 TD or 0 INTs in an important game?"

TB said "0 INTs". Notice how Favre just chucks up passes for grabs. The Miami game was atrocious. I couldn't believe some of the throws he made.

2 problems with this:

-- assumes everything would have happened exactly as it did if he'd stayed retired. That means Brady would have been in the exact same spot at the exact same time he was hit on the knee;

-- assumes favre would join a team where Tom Brady would be back in a year.

I dont think they'd pick up that 12 million dollar price tag.
I also think that BB would bench favre after his first 5int game.

I really doubt that. Because if Farve was available right now, he would have been sent back home just like the other two who wanted a workout yesterday.

OTOH, if Penny had decided to compete with Cassel for the backup job in NE instead of compete for the stating job in Miami......

Favre would have been a great choice here under the circumstances, but it's not going to happen. I don't know if he's kicking himself, but he wanted to be a starter and got his wish.
