I wouldn't put too much stake in Armstead's "pro day" numbers. He hadn't played football in over 6 months and had missed all of the 2011 season. He wasn't working out in the USC facilities during that period, he wasn't training for the Combine and the pro day like so many top prospects are. I very much doubt that the numbers reflect his true athleticism, or how he would perform now.
6 foot 5, 300 pounds? This guy is no Cameron Wake, for sure. That's closer to Ty Warren's build. Makes me wonder how he fits into the Patriots' defense, since 6 sacks in 18 CFL games doesn't really warrant calling him a pass rush specialist. Maybe more a of a Deaderick type.
Sounds good to me. If he ends up replacing the production that we were supposed to get out of Fanene going forward, then that's a worthy signing and basically a free draft pick.

He's a cut 6'5" 300#. No fat on him, and the kid can run. He has a nice arsenal of pass rushing moves, including a terrific spin move and a rip move as well as a bull rush and a speed rush. He can rush from the inside and the outside, and he gets his arms up and blocks passes.
JJ Watt had 5.5 sacks his rookie season. Would you have said he was "more of a Deaderick type" based on that one year, too? Not saying that Armstead is going to be Watt, but he aint remotely close to Deaderick, either.

We really don't know how the kid will do at this level and you always see the very best in the highlight tapes but what you say here is completely agree with.
He the leanest 300lb guy I have ever seen. Just hope he plays with good leverage and body lean.

He will be at least 315-320 pounds by the start of training camp.. That is why we signed him early I bet he will spend the entire offseason in town.

Why do you think he would add that extra weight? I know he is young and his frame could probably allow it but does he really need it? I'd rather have him leaner around that 300 pound range.

It depends how you want to use him. If you want him to be a full time tackle, maybe. Personally, I don't want that. JJ Watt plays around 6'5" 290#, Calais Campbell around 6'8" 300#.
