Patriots Ink First Round Pick Chandler Jones
Jones has already been hard at work so far as a Patriot. |
It might only be May, but it appears the Patriots are taking care of business a little early this year after published reports revealed they've locked up first round pick Chandler Jones.
Jones, who was the 21st overall selection taken last month out of Syracuse, becomes the fifth draft pick locked up so far this offseason, leaving fellow first round pick Dont'a Hightower and 3rd rounder Jake Bequette as the only two left in line waiting for a contract.
As Mike Reiss & Mike Rodak point out in an analysis piece on ESPN Boston, thanks to the new CBA draft picks now count against the 90 man limit even when they're not signed, which appears to have given this year's negotiations a little more urgency.
The good news is Jones has already been in Foxboro for the team's OTA's this week and now that his contract is out of the way, it's one less distraction as he continues to get acclimated to New England's defense.
