Tully Banta-Cain has surgery
Multiple reports broke out early Sunday morning that patriots Outside Linebacker, Tully Banta - Cain, had surgery and would not be ready for training camp.
There is some confusion on the specific injury for the veteran OLB, but informants with knowledge close to the situation claim he is suffering from an abdominal tear. Banta-Cain is believed to have sustained the injury last season and initially decided that no surgery was required after meeting with team doctors. However, Banta-Cain apparently tweaked the injury in recent workouts which forced him to go under the knife on Friday, July 22nd.
With an estimated 4 - 6 weeks recovery time, and the Patriots already lacking depth at the outside linebacker position, this may be a cause for concern. While he could be considered one of the teams top pass rushers, many people believe Banta - Cain could be a cap room causality after last seasons mediocre play.
With NFL teams possibly starting training camp by the end of next week, there is no chance TBC would be ready to go until mid to late pre - season. With the NFL coaching staffs already suffering from shortened evaluation periods, Belichick and company will have to work overtime to find more quality depth availible.
As more information becomes available regarding Banta - Cain's injury and recovery, I will be sure to keep you updated.
