The Patriots are finishing up their minicamp and will head into next month’s training camp hoping to shore up what proved to be an offensive line that struggled for much of 2024.

Unfortunately, it looks like they’re already going to be down one player before that happens.

According to the league’s transactions, New England Patriots offensive lineman Wes Schweitzer has been placed on the “Reserved/Retired” list by the team.  Schweitzer had reportedly been working at left guard with Cole Strange, which now leaves the club down one depth player at that spot.

The Patriots are coming off a season that saw 11 different offensive line combinations and 16 players total see action in 2024.  Schweitzer’s retirement – if that is indeed the case – would potentially open up an opportunity for players like Layden Robinson or Sidy Sow to potentially make the roster.

Schweitzer played for the Jets from 2023-2024, along with the Commanders from 2020-2022.  He also spent four seasons in Atlanta, having originally been a sixth round selection with the Falcons back in 2016.

His departure also opens up a roster spot, which the Patriots will likely try and fill in the coming weeks.  They currently have 90 players on their roster, with Wilfried Pene’s international exemption allowing for an extra player, providing them the ability to carry 91 players.

Dates for training camp were also officially announced, with things set to kick off on July 23rd on the practice fields behind Gillette Stadium.  The team currently lists the practice times as beginning at 10:15am, with gates opening at 9:15am.  However, these are always subject to change, so you may want to check the club’s official website before you head out to the stadium.
