On the fact there’s a report from Pete Thamel that he put Mike Vrabel on his butt and what it was like to work out with his new head coach:
“Yeah, it was amazing. Him and some of the other staff came in, and we had a great workout, got some good work in. They taught me some new stuff. Yeah, I mean, I got him. I’m not going to lie, I got him on the ground. Then we had a great lunch after. A bunch of great guys. I’m just super excited for this opportunity.”
On what it was like to hear his name called and what it means to play for an organization like the Patriots:
“It mean it’s everything. I played for a historic program at LSU, and now to play for one in New England, I guess I’m lucky, but I’m just super excited and thankful to wear that logo on the side of my helmet and across the front of my chest. It’s a complete honor, and I’m just excited.”
On the fact he’s got a relationship with Kayshon Boutte and in terms of guys who are already in the New England locker room, if he’s been able to connect with any of them and who might some of those guys be:
“I’ve had a chance to… I know Jaquelin Roy as well. He was one of my teammates. Him and Kayshon Boutte are the two that I know the best. I’ve seen some of the other guys around the facility when I was there on my top 30 visit, but I’m just super excited to get up there and meet the rest of the guys.”
On how excited he is to work with Drake Maye and to ultimately protect him on the field:
“Yeah, I’m super excited. He’s a heck of a player, a heck of a leader. He’s the commander of our offense. I’m not only excited to play with him, but the rest of the team. I’m excited for the future that we have in Foxborough, and I think we got a special season coming.”
On what his impressions of watching the Patriots growing up and if there were any memories that stick out:
“They always used to just dominate every time that I turned the TV on and the Patriots were playing. They were dominating whoever it was. Tom Brady, Danny Amandola, Julian Edelman, Gronk, all those guys just dominating throughout the years that I was growing up. That’s all I remember is them just winning.”
On when he knew that he was going to be drafted by the Patriots:
“This is where I wanted to be since the start. Eliot Wolf came to my practice whenever I was … probably about week five of the season, and I told him this is where I wanted to be. We’ve had great connections throughout this entire process. I would say probably about a week.”
On the fact he was saying Eliot Wolf came to one of his practices in Week 5 and he told him he wanted to be in New England:
“Yeah, I mean, I told him and our area scout, Alex Brooks, that I wanted to be a Patriot, and that happened in the middle of the season. I’ve had great interactions with everybody throughout the process. A lot of them private workouts, 30 visits, just being up there, getting to meet everybody. It’s just where I wanted to be, and I’m just super excited to get there.”
On if he was to describe his playing style to the New England fan base, how he would describe it:
“Nasty. I’m going to go out there and give everything I have, every single play, to protect my teammates, protect my quarterback, and just put the Patriots in the best position possible to help win games on Sundays.”
On the fact he said a few times that New England was where he wanted to be and why that is:
“I just think that the culture and the New England Patriot logo speaks for itself. I believe in the guys in that locker room. I believe in the quarterback. Coach Vrabel is my kind of guy. He’s all ball, no BS, and that’s what I want to play for. He’s very hands-on. He loves the players that he coaches, and I just want to be a part of that.”
On with all the talk about his arm length and whether he can play left tackle in this league, if he’s entering the league with more of a chip on his shoulder than probably normal:
“I’m just excited to get any opportunity that presents itself to help the team in any way that I can, wherever that might be. I’m just excited to be a Patriot.”
On if he’s had any chance to talk to coach Kelly at all and if he gave him any tips about what to expect in New England:
“Yeah. Coach Kelly’s whole… Both of his sons have been telling me that their uncle lives up there right outside of Foxborough and he’s going to get me set up. Coach Kelly told my dad he’s going to have to cook you all some gumbo, so we’ll see what that’s about.”
On if he has any connections up in New England:
“No, sir, I do not. Whenever I came up on my 30 visit, that was the first time that I had been up there. That was an awesome place. I’m super excited to get there.”
