Patriots fans have their hopes set on Drake Maye potentially being able to win a championship and bring greatness back to New England, and he did just that Wednesday night.
Granted, it was on a ping pong table, but nevertheless the rookie represented the region in style Wednesday night after pulling off a title run during an event down in New Orleans.
Maye was one of four NFL players, including Kirk Cousins, Chris Olave, and Micah Parsons, who participated in the P & G Battle of the Paddles ping pong tournament on Wednesday night.
The promotion was sponsored by Proctor & Gamble and Lowes, and featured those NFL players, along with several internet personalities who paired up with the stars during a doubles round, followed by individual one-ones between each of the players.
Maye led his side to a win on the 2-on-2 portion of the tournament, which saw things get a little chippy as he and Parsons’ team went back and forth in the final round before Maye’s side won that portion of the event.
But the two squared off during the individual portion of the tournament, with Maye sweeping Parsons after winning two-straight games in the best-of-three battle.
It was all in good fun, with Parsons smiling and saying, “The kid’s got some game,” after it was over.
Maye then got to sit down and watch Cousins battle it out with Olave, which saw the soon-to-be former Falcons quarterback take down the Saints wideout for a shot at Maye in the finals.
But Maye made it look easy, beating Cousins again in two-straight games to take home the title. He then rubbed a little salt in the wound by pretending to autograph his paddle and handing it to Parsons.
Parsons joked earlier in the evening that he’ll get even with Maye on the field the next time they meet. Fortunately, barring Parsons going somewhere else other than Dallas or the two meeting in a much more meaningful February championship showdown, the two won’t see each other on the gridiron until at least 2027.
