In a significant move that has sent ripples through the football community, Ashton Grant has been named the New England Patriots’ Quarterback Coach. This appointment marks a new chapter for both Grant and the Patriots, as they look to build on their storied legacy and continue their quest for excellence.
As Ashton Grant takes on his new role as the Patriots’ Quarterback Coach, the football community watches with anticipation. His journey from collegiate coaching to the NFL is a testament to his hard work, passion, and undeniable talent. The Patriots have gained a coach who not only understands the intricacies of the quarterback position but also possesses the ability to inspire and elevate those around him.
The 28-year-old Grant played collegiately at Assumption University in Worcester and was a record-setting Wide Receiver under coach Bob Chesney. In 2016 he was the Northeast 10 Offensive Player of the Year and led Assumption to their best record season in 2017. I had the pleasure of watching him in person those seasons. Grant had a tryout with the Chicago Bear in the Spring of 2018 at their Rookie Mini-Camp. It was then that he realized that his future was in coaching. Bob Chesney took the job at Holy Cross and brought the Manchester, Connecticut native with him as a Quality Control coach. In 2020 Grant was named a Bill Willis Diversity Coaching Fellow with Cleveland Browns. He was promoted in 2022 to Offensive Quality Control. In 2023 and 24 he was the Offensive Assistant/Quarterback Coach. This is where Vrabel interacted with him as a consultant.
Ashton Grant’s vision for the Patriots’ quarterbacks is both ambitious and inspiring. He aims to foster a culture of excellence, where quarterbacks are not only skilled athletes but also strategic thinkers and leaders on and off the field. Grant believes in a holistic approach to coaching, focusing on physical conditioning, mental toughness, and tactical acumen.
Grant’s coaching philosophy emphasizes the importance of adaptability and versatility. He understands that the modern NFL quarterback must be able to read defenses, make quick decisions, and execute plays with precision. His training programs are designed to enhance these skills, ensuring that the Patriots’ quarterbacks are prepared for any challenge that comes their way.

Wow. Doesn’t have much of a resume. Didn’t play QB in college(?) or the pros. Not many years in coaching. But sounds like Vrabel knows him and I assume McDaniels was part of that decision.
